DPMS A-4 .223 Pretty much all the AR's are the same thing, just depends on how much you want to spend and if you are particular to a specific brand. It is the accessories you slap on it that sets it apart... |

Armalite Carbine. Flattop .223 with ss barrel and muzzle brake, collapsible stock, match trigger, composite forend, Trijicon ACOG TA-11, Harris Bipod, and Redi-mag. Also have a 24" match upper with Leuopold Vari-X III Tactical 4-10X for the same lower, for varmint hunting. All ARs are not created equal. If you just want a plinker, you don't need to spend a bunch. If you want a tack driver, you will need to dig a little deeper. |

Daniel Defense DDM4 with Magpul furniture and a Vortex SPARC micro red dot. 556. I had a heavy barrel 6.8 gun that was a little more accurate, but I love this M4 on a diet. People put way too much crap on their black guns. IMO |

He simply asked what we have and if we like it. Not if it was off the shelf or built. Seems like everyone agreed with me, they are not all the same. Your comment doesn't surprise me, as you chose a fuckin DPMS. If you do your homework one could build a better gun for the same price as a cheaper version off the shelf. It not rocket science to put one together. Go dig some turds. |

That's because they are as clueless as you. I could shoot circles around you any day of the week with my cheap DPMS. I guarantee my rifle is just as accurate as yours and it cost MUCH less than the overpriced S&W. . |

I'll be the first to admit mine is not as accurate, off the shelf, as a home build. Sure you can shoot circles around me without knowing what I have done to it? Are you all that familiar with building one? Materials, different buffers, triggers, staking, etc. How do you know what has been to my rifle? Overpriced, I doubt it I got it way cheaper than most places with magpul furniture to boot. The fit is way better than any dpms I've handled. |

You can get smiths for jus as cheap as a dpms, but neither would be my first choice in factory rifle. Lots of ar's are shooters, but accuracy does not neccesarily define quality |

Post subject: | Re: AR 15 what you got |
I have never built one, but I "tuned" mine a bit. I don't need to know what you have put into yours. How many people do you think can actually take full advantage of all the fancy barrels and triggers and other internals? Not very many, for the most part in the hands of your average person a custom built "tack driver" will be no more accurate than an off the shelf model. I know very well what my rifle is capable of and more importantly I am more than capable of squeezing every bit of accuracy out of it. I was a 5 time expert qualifier with my M16 A2, and can group 10 rounds in the chest of a man sized target @ 500 yards with just peep sights all day every day. So regardless of what you have done to your rifle, I still believe I can out shoot you with mine, hands down... The point of this long rambling post is that in the hands of an average shooter a AR off the shelf will work just as good as a custom build. And Robin is spot on ![]() |

^^x2. That's was kinda what I was getting at too, just didn't say it. An accurate gun ain't shit if it stops cycling. |

Post subject: | Re: AR 15 what you got |
Alright, let me try this again. This is why I hate forums, it is to easy for comments to be taken wrong, and I'm not trying to be an augmentative ass here... So IMO most people who buy an AR are looking for a "black" rifle that they can hang some cool accessories off of. For this purpose any basic model, low end AR will work just fine as it is the accessories that really customize it. If the OP had given a bit more info about the end purpose of his needs then a better argument could be made for a better brand. I can't speak for the reliability of the higher end models, but I have had my DPMS for 5 years and probably have a couple thousand rounds through it with no issues. |
