 Installing Grab bar
I am getting ready to install a grab bar on my boat and was wondering which side to put it on. I am right handed and would prefer to drive with my right hand but you see most grab bars on the right side of boats. Just wondering if there is a reason most are installed on the right side of boats?

 Re: Installing Grab bar
Traditionally, the tiller is on the left of the engine and controlled with the left hand so the grab bar is held with the right. That puts the grab bar toward the right side. I don't think that is carved in stone, but in order to balance your load and handle the tiller with the right hand the tiller should probably be changed to the right side of the engine. That certainly can be done but needs some fabrication. Have you contacted Mud buddy to see if they offer a tiller for the other side?

 Re: Installing Grab bar
I'm right handed just like most other folks in the US of A. I also drive my longtail with my left hand. Just about all tiller handle motors are designed to be operated with your left hand. Drive it with your left hand/arm.

Like playing baseball. Which hand would you wear the glove? Stu is right, the tiller can be moved but then so could the ball glove. Duckdon

 Re: Installing Grab bar
I like driving with my left hand, it's just harder for me to be riding in a boat when it's rough and try and drink my beer left handed.

 Re: Installing Grab bar
If your right handed you will be stronger in that hand due to extracurricular activities. So having your right hand to hold on to a grab bar to keep from throwing your a$$ out the boat make sense to me.

 Re: Installing Grab bar
Just think that could of been solved a long time ago. When company M decided to make a MM that resembles a MM from company G, if they would of put the tiller handle on the right side of the engine, problem would of been solved.
