Guys, I am looking at a used rig (14x36 Alumacraft w/MB mini 14HP). The seller says that the bearings need to be changed in the output shaft and that it is currently making noise. He did not have good info on what kind of performance can be expected with two guys (175-200# ea) and gear.

I have a lease in Delacroix, LA and my ride is short but the grass is my biggest navigational challenge. What do you guys think this rig will do with 2 guys and gear?

Thanks.

20 mph with 2 guys and gear? Not with a mini 14hp. I had the 18 mini and with the 10x8 prop it will not get 20mph with one person light boat. The 10x8 mudbuddy prop is not a good sd propeller. I have a 24hp mini and get 24 with 2 men light boat. Never gps'd with a hunting load, but guessing around 20 mph. Do not get high hopes, but if you was to get mid teens with 2 man load, you will be doing good. I would swap that 14 for a 23hp , leave the gears the same and run a larger propeller.

The 14 and 18 minis are too much weight and not the right prop. Save your money and buy a copperhead. They seem to be performing better. Better prop and less weight.

I got to ride in a 12 hp. copperhead last weekend and I was impressed. In a 14 foot fiberglass boat with me and the driver (400 to 450 lbs) my gps said 23 mph.
