Carencro has struggled with terrible drainage for years. The current full time Mayor, ***** Brassesux, has done little to improve drainage. It's an ebarrasment and a shame. It's too late to help those who have suffered loss today, maybe the disaster will force him to address the problem like he should have long ago, |

Couldn't say it better about 50% of the problem is trashing the drainage system you wouldn't beleave what they throw in there |

So will insurance cover any of the damage or do you have to have flood insurance? |

Post subject: | Re: Flooding in carencro |
You would have to have flood insurance homeowners won't cover it. So lots of people didn't have flood insurance because it's not a flood zone |

I have an Acadian style house 3' off the ground but my shop had 3" of water in it. It was a sad thing to see so many people get flooded just from a couple hours of rain. My wife called me and said the water was up to my shop doors so I headed home. This is when I got on my road. This is from my front porch swing!! I have talked to a lot of old people who have been around here all their lives and they say they have never seen water like this. All I can say is this must be a 100 year storm! |

I have not seen this much water ever. I had water over the road where I live. It NEVER floods here. At work yesterday here in Arnaudville, our parking lot had 8-10" of water that stayed for about 3-4 hours until the rain had a break and gave it time to drain. One of our secretaries had about 6-8" before water came into her mobile home that was 2'+ elevated. Like I said Area's i have never seen flood EVER had water. I went through about 1.5-2' deep water on Cresswell lane Yesterday evening. I havent seen this shit before. Just so you guys know..... When you build a House DIRT is cheap. Build your pad 1' higher than your nearest highway and then pour your slab on top of that. My mobile home was required to have a pad, and Im glad. Even with 5-6" of water flowing through my yard the underneath of mine is dry. Simple things like this help stop future issues. I hope everyone the best of luck. |

Everyone should have flood insurance, it's not really that expensive, it can flood anywhere on earth. I feel bad for those that don't. I once had 2ft. All the way up in my attic. |

That same thing happened in Houma back in April 2010. So much rain fell the pumps and drainage couldn't keep up. Tough deal for sure. |

Hate to see this happen to anyone. Having been through multiple floods, I will always carry flood insurance no matter the location or elevation of property. Although you may never need it more than once in a lifetime, if at all, you'll be glad you did. It's mandatory where I live, but I would carry it nonetheless and recommend the same to everone. |

same thing happened in Youngsville/Couteau 10 years ago. Tropical storm Alison dumped over 12" in a few hours. Lots of people were stuck at our office over night. When I left, I hit several spots where my truck literally floated to the opposite lane. |

That's what happened to Houston during Tropical Storm Allison... Now all of our flood lines revolve around TSARP.org (Tropical Strom Allison Recovery Project). Insurance rates will increase, new flood lines were developed and areas in need of improvement were scrutinized. I forget how many inches we had 20+ but I remember it just pouring and cruising flooded streets in the Jeep watching on the news all the stranded motorist & cars as the water just kept rising. |
