Post subject:  INBOARD ENGINE MUDBOAT IE FOWL HABIT, RONNIES......?

Hey all,
Been researching these types of boats after stumbling over a post of "FOWL HABIT" built by Ronnies.

Everything I have found seems to be...... expensive, high maintenance, bring tools and spare parts, fast and a blast to drive when they work.

Question is what breaks on them and why? I was looking at a fuel injected small block, maybe not as big as Fowl Habit in the same size/syle boat. I would be happy with 50 mph..

Would be more for playing than anything but would see hunting, fishing, and crabbing duties.
This would be an east coast boat so we dont have the mud you southern folks do, but we do have tidal areas that get nasty. And I am pretty sure no one around me has one of these set ups.
I have found Ronnies and machete boats, who else has pics or a website I can look into.

Thanks for any help and info

if you don't have mud, you don't want a mudboat

hard bottoms are a no go for inboard mudboats and very hard to impossible in a sd..........sounds like you need an airboat for the conditions you have described.......check with shallow water spyder... they make a cool easy to use airboat.

Gotcha, thanks

I prob should get a clarification as to what everyone says is "hard bottom".

There is no rocks/boulders/ etc where I go.......
I thought anything other than a soupy mud bottom was considered a "hard bottom".
Have have run a long tail in these same areas.

And with these set-ups....cant they be trimmed up for really shallow water and trimmed down in deeper water?

Thanks all

Robn,
Thanks for the info, good to know.

How about more open water with the occasional mud flat? And for just tooling around and making a rooster tail? Why does everyone say these things need a lot of wrenching on?

I will admit I like them just for the "cool" factor, the way they sound, the speeds, and I have never seen one around here.
(maybe I haven't seen them around here because it is a poor choice?) But ,I haven't seen a whole lot of SD either.

Thanks and keep the advise coming

First off he's not talking about z mudboat with shaft and prop out bottom of boat. He's talking bout a super godevil type rig!! You hit the nail on the head and answered your own question !! Yes they are expensive and break alot!! They run and perform well but are a money pit!! I've seen the big ones and small ones big ones are bad ass just cause you have the power to use!! The ones with 35 hp well they are not as good as the surface drives in my opinion.
