Warning. Will contain stupid amateur questions. First off - I run a coleman flat back, flat bottom, indestructible plastic canoe. 16 ft long and about 40 inches wide in the middle. I use it to duck hunt with a 6 hp Johnson that's about 40 years old. The places I hunt in west central Florida are mostly mud and stump free but heavily choked with hydrilla and lily pads. The OB just doesn't work real well with all the veggies I run through. I'm looking to repower the canoe because I also use it in no motor areas. It also sees a fair bit of saltwater action where I will be running through shallow sandy bottom backwater. So I would like to strap on something that can push me through thick SAV. I've been thinking about a 6.5 motor. Not sure if I should consider a SD or an LT. The canoe is best operated sitting down for safety reasons. Thoughts? Also - what type do dimensions do I need to consider? Transom height? Clearance between transom and rear seat? My OB tends to push the front of the boat up at higher speeds...would a MM tend to do the same thing? Last stupid question...I see guys asking about clutches in the classified section...is that used to disengage the motor so you don't have to turn the motor off or lift the prop out of the water when your docking or putting out decoys?
