i bought a minn kota mk25 charger at the pawn shop today. i was wondering if anyone knew if its possible to connect both banks to a single 12v battery to charge it @6 amps instead of single bank @3 amps? |

Why would you want to do that? I would rather it charge on 3 amps then 6. You get a a faster charge with 6 amps but you get a longer deeper charge with the 2 amp or 3 amp in your case. Assuming it's for your trolling motor (the battery). I would personally hook up only the 3 amp for a trickle & if you need to rapid charge your battery just hook up the other 3 amp bank. |

The faster and hotter you get a battery ta charge the better charge ya will get. When I bring mine in to my shop and put it on my midtronics GR8 it hits the battery with 60 amps right off the get go when it is anything under a 75% charge level. This allows the sulfer to be released from the lead plates. After it gets to 90% er more it will back off to "top off mode" and charge it starting at 10 amps and then down to a trickle for the last few percents. |

from the mini kota website Yes, this will charge the battery almost twice as fast. However, the water in the battery is more likely to evaporate with higher charging currents. Thus, the electrolyte level should be checked more often. The maximum safe charging current on a regular battery is 20 amps. |

I always thought a long low charge is better than a quicker hi charge. |

When in doubt, just ask your ol lady which method she prefers. Soft and slow, or hard and fast? |

Think of a vehicle battery. Alternaters use DC to charge the batteries at pretty high amperage rates. They last many years and stay charged for the most part.... Never really ran down to the point of no return. |
