| Post subject: | Aluminum Rivets |
Anybody knows where to get aluminum rivets with big heads. I guess the heads are about 1/2. The ones on my boats floor is metal and they are starting to rust and fail. I guess they are failing due to corrosion / rust. Do yall think aluminum ones are better. Need to get this done ASAP due to wanting to install hydro turf. |

Get stainless ones and use stainless washers if you need them to fill the gap if the holes are too big. Or is that what you are saying you have now? The alum. ones will work, but they'll loosen up over time and you have to drill them out and do 'em again. |

They are steel ones and are breaking. Maybe the stainless ones with washers will work. Especially since I am covering them up. The current ones have over sized heads. Cant find them at local stores. |

large flange rivets. fastenal in gonzales. aluminum or stainless. |

I had stainless rivets and large head aluminum ones on my last boat and neither held up. Get someone to spot weld the holes you'll be better off |

Aluminum rivets suck. Think about it, if the steel rivets are breaking, how can a much softer, weaker material hold up any better? Almost sounds like you need to find the source of all the stress that is popping steel rivets before you cover up that floor! At least replace them with 1/4" instead of the stock 3/16" most companys are using, and stick with steel or stainless steel. |

You can not use steel unless stainless or coated in some way. The chemical balance between aluminium and steel dont mix and cause corrosion issues. Would be why they are breaking most likely not a force issue. Hate to say it but bad boat building from the beginning. I would think aluminum rivets would be fine |
