Actually...it should read, "Prodrive Nuts Done Gone!"

I am not knocking the performance of my motor. That thing ROCKED through some serious water lilly jams Sunday down at the duck camp. But, I lost my air filter cover Monday morning. Left the camp to go pick up jug lines. Came back, it was gone! Last time I took it out, cavitation plate bolting hardware was loose. What else can I expect to vibrate loose on this thing?

You're so right. Pice of shit. You should probably sell it for pennies on the dollar. I'll give you $500.

Don't let this guy low ball you... I'll give you $700.

Yeah, the exhaust will fall apart, the case bolts won't stay tight, block will probably crack, cam may round off a lobe, governor could come apart and send shrapnel throughout the inside of the block, valves won't stay seated and will eventually break, push rods won't stay seated in the rockers. It's a piece of shit for sure.

You should have bought a GTR.

^^ that's a good answer there.
No but seriously when I had my prodrive I'd tighten that nut with a crescent wrench than drilled holes in the cover and put tie wraps threw it.

Post subject:  Re: Prodrive Done Gone Nuts!!

I guess I just got lucky to keep my stock air cleaner for 300 hours. Whenever I though about it, I would just make sure that it was hand tight, and never had any problems. I bet that cover wouldnt come off a GTR or Mudbuddy though.

Maybe that's the issue holding up the release of the Sport V...

I don't have a screw in mine. Same stock one with 370 hours. I must be lucky

Post subject:  Re: Prodrive Done Gone Nuts!!

When I bought mine from the dealer it had a small screw holding the nut and a small hole drilled on each side of the box with a tie wrap. I don't think I have to worry about mine falling off...

Buy another cover from PD and tighten up by hand. Then like mentioned above put a screw in it. Also, while your at it buy you a k&n e4665 ( I think that's the part #) and throw the foam filter away. While your at replacing the filter, drill three holes in the filter bracket with a hole saw to let more air in and enjoy a very cheap and easy mod. It will gain you 50-100 rpms.

Thanks for all the offers, guys! You guys are too kind! Aint knockin the motor...put it through the ringer this weekend going to the camp with one heck of a loaded boat. Took shallow water to break it over onto a step. Then, busted some serious lilly jams. Very pleased with performance. But...after I talk to Peck tomorrow about a new cover, I will try out the K&N and the hole saw theory.

It's cheaper than buying a GTR.

Does it hurt anything to leave the plastic cover off on a horizontal engine, granted its not raining?

I was told Prodrive laughs in the face of Loc-Tite!

But, you guys should have told me about that stuff $64.00 + Shipping ago!

$52 for cover. $12 for knob. OUCH!!

That doesn't upset me near as much as PD telling me they are going to send the new one with a couple little stainless steel self tapping screws. "Just drill a hole through the knob and cover after you get it tight and screw one in." So, what's going to keep the self tapping screw from vibrating loose???

I told them they ought to put flotation in the cover so I could at least go back and find the one that fell off!

ARRGGGGHHHHH!!!!

Its cause the Uncle J boat rattles to much to hold onto the power of the PD

i am willing to bet it floats. just a 1 in a 10000000000000 chance of finding it

Post subject:  Re: Prodrive Done Gone Nuts!!

Another person that hears a bit from the hateraid bunch, and don't know full truth..

I've NEVER had a transom fall off. The only issue I've ever had was a well known boatbuilder came work for me. Someone requested he built their boat. A month or so after, there was a crack hairline crack, and a lot of flex in transom. He brought boat back. I went over it and found were a brace was not put in proper. I stated to customer for him to finish using boat for hunting season, and I'd build him a brand new one. In fact, I would even add or subtract anything he didn't like. He added a 3/16" bottom, and a fully welded floor. So, in conclusion.... How many builders would have done that? Most would have just put patch and let it ride.
On another note.. After building him a new boat, I took his old one, and repaired it. Sold it advising new customer of what happened, and what the fix was. No issues with either one.

Thanks again for allowing me to tell this story. It seems that each time I get orders from it.

I called on the way home yesterday to try and see if it was too late and Peck said it left out 10 minutes earlier on UPS. He said I could ship it back with the invoice and they would refund it, though.

I was going to look at some "Plan B" options but it was too late. Yeah...I think they are very much aware of the cover falling off problem...hence why he said he was sending me two stainless steel screws.

And yeah...J's boats are solid. Don't ever let anybody tell you different!

I have the adapter that the old donaldson set up's came with and mounted a cone style k&n directly to it. Only buddy I have who still has the stock cover has a piece of all thread run all the way through it with a lockwasher and nut holding it down. He lost his in the first few hours he had his too, but luckily my wife was on the way to the lake and brought one from my house for him. I've seen them fall off of mb's, gt's, and pd's just the same. Ddumbass even started a thread cause he'd lost like 3 of em and thought someone was stealing them. They all use the same cover. I'm sure I would see it happening on some gd's too, but I can't remember the last time I saw one of those prehistoric things around here.
