Post subject:  new to mud boats and motors...

Hey guys...im new to mmt (first post) and new to mud boats and motors...Just picked up a demo Phowler 1756 flotation...with a new pd36 from the guys down at illowa. I was told that that i got the new high rev pro- drive 4700 rpm motor. Anybody know anything about it? What speeds/ rpms should I be running at? I'm only getting around 21-22mph with me or another guy...thought i would get a little more. Also like i said that it was a demo boat....when i got home i looked at the bottom of the hull and found a few large dents ( after being told that it only had some scratches) ...will this affect anything? Otherwise its a great boat...thanks

You should be hitting 3800-4000 in the water if you are trimmed correctly. Expect 26-28 mph with that type of load. Being new to mud motors, I am guessing that you are not trimmed correctly. Practice, bring a GPS and watch your tach. You will figure it out

I got a brand new 36 and I turn 4200-4300 in the water. I'm sure your trimmed down too much, you need to be throwing a good rooster tail

Alright thanks...i think im running around 3600-3800rpm. I guess being a mechanic i want to keep the rpms low. Im going hunting for a week so i will trim up and get the rpms higher.

I have the exact same boat and i run about 3900 rpms. With me and my brother in the boat (450 lbs.) we'll do about 25-26 in deep water. In shallow water it'll do about 27-28.

Still running 21-22mph...3900-4100rpm...im leaning towards a worn prop. I have 30 hrs on the motor and have ran about 10 of those through sandy shallow rivers. Probably get the factory prop...any suggestions?

Sand and mud motor props do not mix well, your prop might be shot already

Check your prop measurements. Look at prior posts on that subject.
