Post boat driveing tips!!!!
So after MANY years of running LT; I had enough and bought a used brother 18x48 with a 36 PD.... So far I like the rig...

Now tonight after work I went out and played around to get a feel for how the boat handles!!! and all I can say is I NEED HELP ON HOW TO DEAL WITH SLIDEING..
I understand that once you start to slide back off the gas and turn(stop sliding) them get back on the gas??? but I an haveing a hard time doing that

Any tips would be greatfully!!!

Why don't you just back off enough to begin with not to slide like a jap Mobil drifter. Than you probably not letting off enough to stop the slide once it starts. It's pretty simple to control with a lil common sence. Get as much tiller time as possible and don't drive like NASCAR if you don't know how to control it.

Or buy a round chine boat. You'll turn on a dime.

Post Re: boat driveing tips!!!!
after this morning, i seriously considered welding a few ribs to the bottom of mine

we hunt a lake that right now has about 4 inches of water on it and 4 to 6 inches of mud below it then it gets solid. So you have to run from the channels to your teal blind, in the teal blind we have a ditch that we made from going forward and backward thru the blind chute so we can take off on step when we leave the blind. so you pretty much have to drive it like you stole it most of the time during teal season.

if you slow down too much to turn, you have issues getting back on step, and it turns better when trimmed down but i have to run it trimmed high due to the hard bottom so at this point i just figure how much area an 18 wheeler would need to use to turn around, multiply it x 2 and plan way ahead.

I love the way a Brother boat looks but I don't want a boat that slides and have no interest in learning how to drive a sliding boat. Good luck man. Hopefully with more tiller time you will get the hang of it.

So I played around in deep water today...LOL main channel of mississippi...

and got the old AIR boat "hop skoch" slide and beign able to corner around the green and red cans while keeping them within 10 ft....

time on the stick helps.... and the more the better...
P.S. I used up 15 gals. of gas today...to tell you how much I want to learn this boat/style of hull.

Add that was over 2 days

Yes more time on the stick always helps. And don't be afraid to go places you don't think you can go you will learn a lot like that, and even surprise yourself sometimes.

Just slow down in turns. Its not very complicated. Thats why I like a square chine boat because you can run on step going slow and it will turn fine. Ive never understood why someone needs a duck boat that can make a 90 degree turn going 30mph.

My boat only runs 20 WFO and most times I find myself crusing along at 14-15mph just barely on step

Post Re: boat driveing tips!!!!
first off thanks too thoughs who responed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now here is were I need help cause I mush be doing something wrong??? or is it what it is???

I can corner 5:10 perfect in deep water/ get into a slide and keep it/ get out of a slide by getting the leading side to dig...

But in shallow/skinny water 6" or less I have issues that I cann't get the boat to corner with out a ton of slideing. I back off to idle and crank on the handle but keep sliding (this is done at just enough gas to stay on step). I must be doing something wrong?? or am I going about it right and just need more stick time???

Thanks ahead of time!! also this is my FIRST square chine boat...

mine is the same way for sure, worst for the sliding is when in about 2 to 6 inches of water, will turn in deep water and also in mud, seems better tho if you put more weight to the back so when you slow down in shallow water it will dig or drop in the water slightly.

It slides in shallow water because of lift/ it can't dig.

They all do it, Round, Square, Taper, Extreme...
