Post anyone ever build a push pole?
We were out scouting this weekend and demolished my new Rich-Mar push pole....the thing bent a few hours in and then the duck foot fell off. Then my friend dropped the pole in the water and it sunk to the bottom. So now its time to build one. It needs to be strong....float...telescope and light. Anyone have any ideas? What about a strong duck foot...not one with a rivet through it...where can i get one?

Hill side casting has a foot and a spike you can weld on some pipe

Best push pole I ever had was a wood one. The handle was made by a company called Oshkosh Tools. They build really long handled tools for the highline and utility companies. You can get a handle 16' for sure maybe longer. Nice thing is they are extreamlly strong, made out of ash maple and hickory. You can really lean into them and they have just a little bit of flex so you can feel how much strain your putting on them. If you drop it they float. Its a lot warmer to hang on to when its cold.

I built one for $30 dollars I bought some 1 3/8 galvanized top rail for a chain link fence the fence company cut it to 14' and only charged like $1.25 per foot I used the $12 duck foot from academy you just have to take it off of the 4" piece of pipe it comes on and bolt the wings directly to the galvanized tubing I wrapped the tubing with electrical tape. It odviously doesnt telescope and it will sink but it wont break.

ive got one that was a mast off a small sail boat. its about 2 inch thin wall alum. i dont know the alloy but its stiff and very strong and very lite. it had a round plastic cap on the end when i got it. i cut a short paddle handle off and the end of the paddle to blunt it and ran it up the other end.

I created my own design called "The PuddlePole" Its a 2 Piece design the pole is 1-3/8" OD 1/16" wall aluminum pipe when i picked it up from th metal yard the guy said they actually sold it as "push pole pipe"

It combines a:
-Push Pole
-Paddle
-Decoy Retriever
-Cajun Anchor

ill get a pic tom of the whole thing but this is the business end of it, i cut a slit in the end of the pipe and slid the plate in the cut and welded it up. also cut notch to catch decoy anchor line

the ones ive made and use are wood, 12 to 16 foot. Get the dowel from a millwork shop or good lumber yard. they don't telescope, but they do last. carry two, just in case.

If you are going to buy aluminum and make your own look at a 2000 series aluminum. This series is technically not weldable but for the application, compression, weld it any way. It should be pretty stiff yet have a little deflection to it with out just folding over like a 6000 series would.

Young cypress is the best, light and crazy strong, probably outlast the grand kids! I call em a caveman crowbar.
