 Progress on the new build
Haven't had much time to work on it too much, but should be pretty close to finished by Friday.

I was thinking the same thing CB ...I guess y'all belly out those sides in the center for more room for the motor?

Re: Progress on the new build
It's more of a style thing, although I guess it does give you more room though, never really thOught about it. I just don't like a barge type lookin boat.... I can build a barge if that's what somebody wants, it just personal preference.

Re: Progress on the new build
I think his boat is shaped this way out of esthetic preference. For a planning hull, this is not ideal hull shape. But for displacement hulls like oyster luggers or shrimp boats, this shape is hydro-dynamically more efficient than other hull forms. That's where it comes from and he's just adopting the same form because he likes it. If you're going to create more beam for a large engine, ideally you should carry that same width back straight through to the transom. That being said, I like this boat a lot.

Re: Progress on the new build
dwnsouth, thats how a boat supposed to look, very nice, dont worry bout these flat sided,no flare, barge drivers. the angle the first pic was taken on does make it look kinda funny,i was waiting for the comments. not all builders these days know how to flare it like that, also not everybody wants the bulkheads or braces across the boat to strengthen it. for your application, very nice...i know this aint your first,or second, rodeo!

Re: Progress on the new build
We can build the gator trax style boats... my dad is from the "old school" and a master boat builder. He can make wood or metal do very strange things! I told him 3 years ago that he needed to start accomodating the surface drive motors and building lil straight narrow boats and he told me "hell NO" it woud ruin his reputation!! That being said he has very unwilingly built a few here and there. He just feels like they dont have any "class". I told him to hell with Class its about the CASH!

How's that beast running? Any numbers yet? I hope you have plans for a seatbelt in that thing.

Re: Progress on the new build
Super nice rig - congrats!!
Is the wood floor temporary? I've heard something about treated wood and aluminum reacting causing corrosion to the aluminum... I may be off, but anyone else know more about this??

Re: Progress on the new build
last rig been having treated wood in it for 6 years, it may affect thin aluminum but 6061 1/8 and up never had a problem. im just gonna put some hydro turf on it and let it ride for a while. I have to take the wheel off and go get some cup put in it but we ran 40 even yesterday with 4 men. still have to put a timing light on it and fine tune the carb a bit. Overall though it ran pretty sweet. its just about unstoppable in the lily's and mud. i'll see if i can get a video or two up later. That Magnaflow sounds pretty bad ass too!

Re: Progress on the new build
It's been a while since I been on , but ran this last week with 4 men , 2 gun cases, 2 ice chests ... Seems like the more weight I put upfront the faster it goes...?? It won't go that speed with just me light. Top speed so far 45mph
