Post subject:  EXCEL BOATS AND GATOR TAIL

New to the forum and still doing research on what boat/motor to get. I got and estimate today on a gator tail boat and motor, but I want to consider more options before commiting to them. What are your thoughts on the excel F4 boat? I wonder how well the gator tail motor (GTR 35) performs on this rig. 1754 is the model im leaning towards on both manufacturers. Anyone out there running a gator tail on the excel boats? Thoughts? Thanks in advance guys.

the f4 is .100 aluminium.....if you get it drive it real carefully and dont hit anything or pull it over any levees and be very careful running shallow......most of the ones ive seen around here in the past have been sold and replaced with a different boat....

one of my friends just recently bought a gatortail rig he loves it. Also he said that you can pretty much customize the inside of the gatortail boats to what you want. so you can get all the bells an whistles that you like in the excel boat

If I could tell you anything and you listen please listen to this, if these guys give you negative feed back about something take their word for it, I was dead set on buying a certain brand boat and motor (won't mention lol) and I didn't listen to all the bad and negative reviews I read on here just kept looking at the good, but the bad out weighed the good...to make a long story short if I would have listened the first time it would have saved me a lot of time and money, now I'm sittin right with a brand new gator tail boat and motor and love it

I had a 2008 excel midwest edition 1754 with a 35GTR purchased new. The boat was very well built, but it weighed a ton. All .125 with 24" sides.

It performed well until you really put a load on it. I consider Excel's to be solid as a rock, but I think you're much better off with a custom build.

The difference in performance between the 2 will be a big difference. Don't cut yourself short on performance

Both are nice boats. Excels are pretty pricey. I like mine but we don't have the hazards u guys do. Sandy rivers with a few logs and grass marshes aren't to bad on mine. What ever u get make sure u get at least a .125" bottom in 5086 aluminium. Just my .02ยข.

What you can save with a custom builder you could pay for the trailer or mods for the motor.

Where are you gonna find a 1 grand custom? ....you can get an exact copy of a gt boat if you wanted for about a grand less once you start to add the custom work and in some cases even more depending on the boat.

I got no problems with any of the custom builders, I even spoke to one of them before i bought from GT, and most of them are established, i think u still need to be careful who u choose due to problems down the road, hell some boys had problems and lost money before there was a weld made.
