Post 27 mb mini and...?
Hey all. Finally got around to buying a mud motor after wanting to make the switch for around a year. I purchased a mini 27 kohler with only 90 hours on it. I planned on upgrading hulls as well and was going to choose just a simple flat bottom welded. Since then I found a deal on a brand new alweld mud hull. I understand they are only .100 but I assume this motor would push it well since they are a lighter hull? That's my question. I can't find anyone running one of these yet and was thinking a 1644 or 1648. Hearing different opinions on what would get better speeds loads Etc.

I had one on a 1548 G3 & it sucked. Put it on 1644 GD hull & it did ok. I think if you really need a mud motor & use it a lot, you'll be better off with a different setup as that 27 doesn't have enough torque & the mini frame doesn't have enough trim travel. Good luck.

The guys that put these motors on light weight Jon boats r typically happy... I know of several on 15 or 1648 jon boats that will run 27-28 w 2 guys no problem.

Also work great on a rogue type boat

IMO u need a 35 when u step up to 44 inch wide or larger mud hulls

The g3 may have pushed a wall of water like the express hulls often do.. If so it is gonna suckola

I have the 27 mini on a gatortrax 1644, it does ok. 23 solo, 21 with 2 guys add in hunt load drops a lil more. Gets me where I need to go but would prefer a bigger motor.

I have a 23 HD sport on a 1744 alweld but it got a true flat bottom no ribs .100 gauge. Me and the dog 150, 70 gas and fishing gear was 23-24. Haven't tested it with a good load yet but I'm hoping the longer hull keeps the speeds from dropping off sharply. I plan on adding some mods to help with a load. If those are your two choices I would go with the 1648 your not gonna break any speed barriers so might as well have the extra room that set up will get you there and back.

My 27 mini was on a 1542 and solo it would srcream , with a load I would scream. Now that being said i put the motor on a 1754hd gatortrax and it would carry a load WAY better than the little 1542 but was alot slower then the 1542 solo. So i trade the rig for a 1746 with a modded 35 gdsd.So i fucked up when I bought the mini ,should of just bought the 35 from the get go.
