 Dead Carp and a Sport H 55
Made it out to the marsh today with some buddies, one brought his new Sport H black death 55...good times!
I got to drive the H for a while, gear noise is almost non-existent and pushed the three of us and his 1860 legendcraft 22mph in 18" of water (we're at 5000' up here). I haven't driven enough mud motors to give you a good review but it worked, the trim worked great, the gear shift was smooth, reverse pulled the boat perfect and we killed some big ol carp!

Interesting that you'd point out how quiet it was. I guess mud buddy doesn't work on the weekends.

Re: Dead Carp and a Sport H 55
5000 altitude will affect HP on carb fuel engines.
On old 350 cid GMC engines with 4 bbl carbs we used to advance the ignition timing from 8 deg to 12 deg. BTDC. New autos with EFI the computer handles everything.
EFI is the future for Mud Motors.

Re: Dead Carp and a Sport H 55
I think it looks like a sweet motor, whatever you guys say! The owner said the 55 BD engine on it isn't as strong as the 55 BAMF he had on his MB HD, and I remember going quite a bit faster with his old motor, but it handled everything pretty well today. Love the instant reverse/neutral/forward on it.
We had that boat with three guys, two fiberglass layout boats and six dozen dekes busting through 3/4" ice out of the marina and then jumping right up on plane last season with the 55 BAMF, very impressed with it! I'm sure he'll upgrade this sport H motor as well.

Nothing left to upgrade on that motor . It's got every performance part BPS makes on it.

Re: Dead Carp and a Sport H 55
It was the spur actually
Not sure which sand bar you're talking about, but we took that 18' boat down the 48" channel at 3/4 throttle the whole way, almost slid off once but the guy that owns the boat knows his stuff and kept us going!

Re: Dead Carp and a Sport H 55
Does your friend work for or have any affiliation with MB (e.g. dealer, sponsored pro/guide)????
If not this would be the first Sport H a ordinary customer got. Please tell him to write up an in depth review.

Re: Dead Carp and a Sport H 55
He did work for MB this last year but runs his own business in the summer.
And a mud buddy review from a MB guy in this forum? I don't think so...too many guys looking for ulterior motives! I figured yall would get enough from my review since I don't have any loyalty to any brand.
Like has been said on this forum many times, any new design needs a couple generations to become refined, I wouldn't expect this to be an exception.
I have another friend doing some framing for MB right now, he sends me pictures all the time of rows of freshly painted Sport motors ready to go out, I'm sure they don't sit long once they're painted.

Re: Dead Carp and a Sport H 55
Running at 5000' loses something like 17% power, so that 55 is only running 45hp.
Like I said earlier, his 55 BAMF motor seems to be a significantly stronger engine

Re: Dead Carp and a Sport H 55
The 5500 doesn't mean it has 55 HP. With just heads, carb and exhaust it's probably only about 42-43 HP

Re: Dead Carp and a Sport H 55
That motor is for "Glade", the official spokesman on TOS for the delivery of the Sport motors. That engine is a 7000 according to everything that he has posted over there. That is why this guy is calling it a 55.
