what seems to have more problems and go out more and breaks more?
the GTR belt or the PD reverse? to the teeth on the gears in the PD ever get sheered or worn down, and if so does this only happen if ou dog your matter and are hard on it and dont know what your doing.

And does the GTR belt ever just up and pop and go out?

which lower unit is easier to do maintenance on. Still havent decided yet on the motor, was all the way GTR first now im back leaning towards PD. can't decide in whats stronger and mroe reliable, belt with regular reverse or gears with full poer reverse or if they are just as reliable as one another?

Either one is as good as the other , GTR faster, PD carry more wieght, you know the reverse, everything else is personal preference and where you run. Try to find someone that has each and drive them in your area...

thats just the thing, i will never have one set place where i always hunt or go joy riding, i will be in venice, i will be in the wax, i will be in pecan island, i will be in bayou sorrel, i will be in manchac, i will be in the basin, i go anyweher to shoot a damn duck, so whatever i get i will have to make due with everywhere

The only real advantage IMO is a GTR can trim down more and should do better in deep mud but I've personally not seen where a GTR can go where I can't but I have seen the FPR do better in some stuff, again, it depends, all round, there equal to me. Each works a little better than the other in different places.

Your putting way to much thought into it. I know its a big investment but youre not stuck with it for the rest of your life. Just way the pros and cons of each and buy one. I'm sure you will be happy with either one. I don't even have reverse and i get along just fine without it, although it would be handy in some places. The speed vs load carrying isn't going to make the difference in killing a few ducks

Some people use their rigs for more than just ducks...

You should test drive them both. You gotta work hard to break pd gears and gt has a lifetime warranty on the belts.

Look at it this way on the pd you got a 36 hp on top of some hefty gears! Gotta try really hard to break em.

And for the gator tail, if you made a shitty product that broke a lot would you offer a lifetime warranty? Probably not because you would lose money. The way I see it is gt offers that warranty because the belt almost never breaks!

Your worrying about 2 things you won't have any problems with. Start worrying about the boat it's gunna be on, because those 2 motors are the best in the business.

If you ordered a boat you better choose a motor before they build a transom

A belt is free and takes 10-15 minutes to change.

nah, i dont need all that extra expensive bs, only thing extra i would do to my motor would be a marshmellow exhaust :D bc i like how badass the motors sound like that, lol

What I can't grasp is why in the world would anyone spend $1900.00 to gain five h.p when spending $2300.00 can get you fifteen?

Post subject:  Re: GTR belt? PD gears

what does $2300 get you?

and what mph do u gain after a 15hp increase?

Post subject:  Re: GTR belt? PD gears

could u add just a marshmellow and a carb?
i dont want to do one of these stage 1 or stage 2 kits on my motor bc i've heard too many stories about motors blowing up or the upgrades shortening the lifespan of the motors.

Post subject:  Re: GTR belt? PD gears

That just depends on how you treat the motor.

Post subject:  Re: GTR belt? PD gears

well ima stay stock for now, not gunna be able to afford sinking money into the motor after having to take out a loan and finance it. aint too worried about it

Post subject:  Re: GTR belt? PD gears

Post subject:  Re: GTR belt? PD gears

If your gonna run a stock motor run a stock exhaust. Pretty simple lol

A friend of mine has a 2012 model 36hp pd with over 300 hours. Hyd reverse and trim and they have only changer the oil every 100 hours and changed the prop because they run a lot of sand. ZERO problems, and these guys run this thing hard.

I think most motor/frames are as reliable as another as long as the routine maintenance is done. I owned a mb and enjoyed it. I now drive a pd as it is definitely easier to drive. I will admit its a little slower. This weekend I drove a gatortail and I wouldn't trade my prodrive for it.
