Was that the ride where the guys that organized it got tired of picking up all the trash that was left in the meeting place and the water? I thought I remember reading about that. Could be wrong.

Lots of reasons why it is no more and never will be again, at least not like it was back then.

Mostly law and government were pissed because they didnt have any part in it and a lot of people were acting stupid and drunk.

Even though the local Sheriff Dept had a big part in the event and served lunch for everyone at the island outpost, the new sheriff for the following year wasn't game for it.

All in all it became a big mess that wasn't worth the hassle.

I don't know many details, but I do know that the sheriff at the time (Sid Hebert) held the lunch and final destination of the day at a place called Island Outpost. That was Sid's last year in office and the new Sheriff (Ackle) was not interested in continuing the event. There was also a bunch of other complaints about the trash on the lake. Bass fisherman complained about us tearing up the spawning grounds. There was some other political/legal items as well.
It was an awesome ride with over 200 boats. Hopefully not a once in a lifetime ride.

Yea you right Willet.
If I remember right, there was not a single DUI charge during that event.

That was also a fun ride, but I don't blame Brooks for not hosting it anymore. People were trashing his camp and his lease, plus making him look bad by having them there. It sucks a few always have to ruin it for everyone else.

The trash part was definitely the LA Mud Run. The last one they had, when we hung out at the sand bar, my boat became a trash can for most of the people swimming. I filled 2 garbage bags out of my boat. But there were still people throwing their crap in the river. I even talked to someone and he said that it was ok, I tear my can open and let them sink. That way nobody knows its there. Tried to explain to him that someone's kid might step on that can and slice a foot open but it didn't seem to matter. That's why we can't have anything nice.

Yea muddi gras was a great ride.

From what I know (and mind you I don't claim to know everything that went on behind the scenes) is that the previous year the GW were messing with people and the Sheriff told them that this was his parish and to leave the folks alone. The next year (the last one) was when the GW showed the sheriff who was really in charge of the waterways and had the mobile DWI unit there busting folks.

As for talk about the new sheriff, he wasn't in office at the time so I've never heard of him not wanting to do it or not. (again, he may have said something that I'm unaware of)

A lot of the ending of muddi gras had to do with the public's perception of mudmotor rides being a wild drunken event. This is what I've been preaching for years is that when folks post pics of people jumping things, drinking, people flying out of boats etc etc etc, this is what the public sees and thinks, therefore leaving a bad example for our sport. We do it to ourselves is what I'm getting at.

Case in point, when GT had their customer appreciation day rides, the last one was held at the pavillion at the state park. My wife went in to the little store/ranger station to buy something and she heard the GW and rangers talking about what well behaved group these guys were, not like those other rides.

We are truly responsible for what we have here and how we act says a lot. I'm not saying we can't have fun but being responsible would help. As for the La Mud Run, yea I think the trash was the thing that ended it. I don't blame them either after all the work that goes into the event you have folks trashing the place. Not cool at all.

It's gotta be an event sanctioned by a sponsor, insured, and have a purpose other than just riding around. Maybe like a trail ride from point A to B...have a destination. There would have to be a support crew to shuttle vehicles and trailers.

I think you need to decide what kinda ride its gonna be: family oriented or total adult debauchery with strippers and the like. I'm pretty sure there are several on here who could round up plenty. If you create enough anticipation there might be people from all over the country attending and we might see another 200 boats show up like before. It would be quite the undertaking so corporate sponsorship would be a must.

It just seems we've been trying to force what is essentially a testosterone driven activity into a family event. Don't get me wrong, the family events are fun but the young guns are pretty bored, I'm sure.

Do like we did at our ride. Give out a nice prize for who ever picks up the most trash! I know you guys have a lot of shit in the waters down there. That would help get support for a ride and promote it as a clean up day. Help put a better light on the sport.

the game wardens always look for us...

two years ago ben and peacock were given tickets for no kill switch.... they clearly had them on.

the bass fisherman hate us... the past 2 years the same weekend we go it has been a bass tourny

mind you this is less than 15 boats and a small group.

it would be a cluster fuck to try to organize another big fausse point ride... nobody likes mud motors on the lake.

Sounds to me like you've had some folks tearing and trashing the lake. That usually happens when folks get out of control with one thing.
Same thing happened on a certain North Texas lake when the wakeboarding folks started acting stupid. After that the GW would fine the shot out of anyone that even remotely looked like they were gonna act up.
Act like a fool, pay like a fool. One summer later and the fishermen had their lake back.

A big ride could easily be put on in Venice in feb. or march. There are plenty of place to stay and that time of year is pretty slow as far as fishing and hunting goes. A bunch of mud boats would be out of sight and out of mind there.
