I have never heard some sell a gator tail for a mud buddy , but I know ppl with mud buddies who have upgraded to a gator tail if that helps . Biggest difference is the obvious reverse . But mud buddies do go in forward just hope you don't get in a spot where you need to back up. |

I've had both . I got a Gtr 35 now. Honestly I didn't have any problem out of either one. I really like the reverse on my Gatortail. Customer service with Gatortail is great! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 2 |

ive owned both and wont swap back! gatortails service is top notch! only complaint I had about gtr was the trim was slow compared to mb but the new trim is pretty close to the same speed so that one doesn't matter anymore. reverse is really nice, where my friends are struggling or pushing to get back going ive already dug a small trench and got going again. reverse sealed the deal and the great customer service tops it off. I call and talk to hoyt and shit gets handled, even had kyle answer the phone after hours and help me out. |

I'm with f250!! I had a mudbuddy and really didn't have a lot of trouble out of it but there was problems! The main reason I went to gt is customer service! And I'm never going back! I have a lot of friends with mb and I can't stand to think about if they ever had a problem out of it how much crap it would take to fix it! |

That's the biggest pro and con , mud buddies do good in forward I seen couple of then dig real good down here. If you are changing over from mud buddy it's got to be bc you want reverse |

When SETX Performance was open we had a fare share of both motors come through, everyone of them react different in different situations. Both go good in forward but you can bet on it when the shit hit the fan, a little reverse action from the GTR and i was coming out of the hole. Reverse is Reverse no matter which way you look at it, ITS A PRO. GTR reverse is proven and it keeps getting better. Reverse is where its at, there are 2 motors that are proven with that feature, the rest are just playing catch up and failing misserably. |

I had a MB and really enjoyed it. It was a good motor and the way I had it set up it was a runner. Sold it because I won't be able to use it a whole lot this season. Going to order a GT rig after the new year. Going with a GT because of........Reverse. MB has the new Sports out but I am not, nor am I sure I will ever be, sold on them. |

GT = Instant reverse. Everything the MB can do, the GT can and will do better. |

Pros of mud buddy are trim and clutch location and not having to deal with pin locations for trim. It would be real nice to have reverse. There are times on almost every trip it would come in handy but it not terrible you get used to running a boat without it. It it adds to the cost if your on a budget. Put the mud buddy handle from the hyper drive (not sport v) and mercury trim on a Gtr n it would be an awesome set up |

Post subject: | Re: Who had had both mud buddy and gator tail |
I've had two PDs, two MBs, and now a GT. I never really had any problems with the MB or the GT. The design is basically the same since MB copied GT. I don't have a GT dealer local and didn't have any local MB dealers that I would want to deal with until about a year ago. So I've been stuck doing absolutely everything by myself. I've never had anybody at GT answer an email for me but I have been able to get them on the phone to order parts. I've always had problems getting MB to answer the phone and order parts, sometimes a half dozen tries before they will actually answer the phone in the different departments. Customer service is the selling point to me between the two besides reverse. If I could get PD's customer service on a GT, I would be in heaven. You simply can't beat the customer service from PD, IMHO. Don't get me wrong, I've never had a problem with GT's customer service but PD simply went above and beyond what I expected. Go with a dealer that has a good reputation and will give you support after the purchase and you'll be in good shape. Don't expect to hear anything from GT about future designs or upgrades until after they are tested and actually being installed on units and shipped to customers. Expect empty promises from MB about absolutely everything, seriously that's the god honest truth. Even MB's dealers can't argue with that. There's endless examples of this over the years. |

I guess technically I have both right now. lol the GT reverse is a must, but the trim range of the MB is the best IMO. |

Yes but it takes alot of machine work and the ability to source your own replacement parts, cuz GT sure as hell aint gonna sell em to you |

That conversation would probably go over like a fart in church. I got a lathe and a basic end mill but not enough time to undertake a project like that. MB shoulda took all the money they wasted.trying to reinvent the prodrive and just made their hypers go backwards |

If ya do go MB. Bypass all the CS problems and call the BoatDr... He's about 30 min from me and the nearest MM service guy so I've always contacted him first and never had to deal with MB directly (trim relay, clutch switch). Im Always taken care of quickly and fairly. But from what people round here talk (which very well could be extremly over exaggerated) the time a part may spend in the mail from La would be less than a return call from Ut. No matter where u are! |

Goose I wouldn't mind trying a gtr either. For us reverse wouldnt help as much as it does these guys with soft soupy mud. You can be the experiment in our group. Its hard to walk away from what I know can take the punishment and I know I like how it drives. |
