I just came across a free fiberglass 16ft pole vault and was wondering if anyone has ever used one to make a push pole. Its hollow and extremelty light. If I cap it off will it make it hard to keep in the water because it will want to float or should I add some weight to the foot to keep it down? Figured it would make a jam up push pole due to the light weight and durability. |

Have you ever accidentally grabbed a partially dry rotted marine VHF antenna? It will ruin your day when microscopic fibers are in your skin like thousands of splinters. I have. Just a thought. |

Yea that crossed my mind. Thought about wrapping it with something but figured it would make a strong lightweight push pole |

Ruff it up and put a couple of good coats of paint on it. |

I could be totally wrong on this, but I noticed its wrapped and I wana say that all pole vaults are wrapped with something to prevent splintering. Found it laying by the trash pile at the college I coach at. |

I could be wrong, but I think that the original Moonlighter push poles started life as vault poles... My understanding is that for high school or college, a pole could only be Vaulted so many times before a mandatory de-commissioning . Moonlighter then purchased the now 'useless' poles, put a foot and a spike on them, and now you have a push pole! I agree with the above posts about a light sanding, and paint- Krylon Fusion seems to work well...Fiberglass splinters in your hands are one of the more miserable things in life- |

Yo you want it to float , I push a boat everyday ... Do not add any weight , figure out the diameter and see if stiffy or loop push poles has a pointy end and a wider foot for the other end and you will be set |
