 New guy to the forum
Hey guys I'm new to the forum and figured this would be the best place to ask my first question. I've always been around go devil long tails and never a surface drive. Early next week I'm buying my first one off a guy.
It is a 2011 18x56 uncle j boat with extended hunt deck, gun box, dry box, winch mount, trolling motor, integrated running lights, and 16 gallon gas tank. It's running a 35 gtr with hydraulic trim and reverse. The motor has a mashmallow exhaust, minuki carb, stainless valves and polished heads. All the work was done at a place called setx performance. The motor only has 29 hours on it. And is on an aluminum trailer.
Now the question is I'm paying 13 for it and I'm wondering if I am getting a good deal? The guy also said it will run 35 with one person in the boat. I rode in it and it was quick but we didn't have a GPS. Is that a realistic speed and are uncle j boats good boats? I've never heard of one. Before now

Sounds like an pretty good deal. Highly doubt it runs 35 withcarb, heads, and exhaust. Prob close to 30. Welcome by the way.

Re: New guy to the forum
Uncle J builds a great boat and SETX does great motor work. Unless that boat is .100 gauge aluminum, I agree with mizzippi about not running 35. For a motor with only 29 hours and those mods, thats a great deal.

Uncle J will stand behind his boats even though you weren't the original owner and SETX does great engine work. Sounds like you got a pretty good deal to me.

Cool. So if y'all are figuring around 30 any ideas what it would run like with a load in the boat?

not a bad deal at all man. setx hasn't done much work lately so you got a plus with that one.

Re: New guy to the forum
Yeah I tried getting on their website but it said it was shutdown due to being over booked. Is there anything about the gator tail I should watch out for? I know it's Chevy and ford comparison but is there anything on the gtr that really prone break easily.

Re: New guy to the forum
Yeah he told me 35 was in shallow. Idc anything has to be faster than my old boat. It was a 20 door gd with a 25 hp long tail. I've got pics of my buddies passed out on the way to the blind bc it took so long to get there.

Re: New guy to the forum
Welcome to the forum. You got a great deal. Top boat builder and great surface drive. You got an excellent price.
I got an Uncle J 1854 3/16 with a 35 gtr. Spent about 18K with a custom aluminum 3500# trailer.
Best of luck !
