Getting a new rig for this duck season just picked up a 23hp go devil sd and was wondering what size boat you would recommend? Iv been looking at lowe, g3 and alumacraft some are all welded and some are welded with rivets. Thanks chad

Don't go cheap on the boat. I did and it is falling apart. Already looking at a costum and I have only been running my boat and motor about 10 hours

It says this motor will go 20 to 23 on the website but idk if thats with a full welded boat or rivets/welded. I found a 1448 g3 all welded it weighs 400 to 450 pounds would that be to heavy for this motor or do i have to get a 1448 lowe rivetd/welded that weighs about half that.

what do you think about a fully welded 1448 g3 that weighs 450 pounds, seems like a tank to me.

i wouldnt do it man..ppl have issues with those types of boats..theyre made for outboards not mudmotors..go with custom build is my .02

i ran a 23 gdsd on a 1645 all 1/8th for a while ran 24ish 25 and carried a load decent id go 16' its helps to plane the boat out and carries a load better than 14'
heres one of my old one

Please make sure to get the right boat. I have a 23 GDSD. It is a solid little motor but making a mistake on a boat will ruin it. My boat kills the performance. Don't get a Lowe boat. It has a tall transom. You need a 16 inch transom. Don't get a G3. Make sure your boat is a 1648. Godevil boat or custom is best. If you want to save money get the 1648 alweld boat. I have a 1546 Southfork. It is too small. I am saving to get a custom built boat now. Don't make the mistake of getting a Lowe boat or a G3.
You will ruin your experience of mud motor riding. I learned from experience. That motor is fun with the right boat.

The 1648 alweld will run about 24.5 mph and will perform well. If you want to save money go that route.

Go devil website recommends a 20 inch transom for the 23 sd, still try to find a 16 inch transom?

Post subject:  Re: 23 Go Devil SD boat?

it depends if your have a short transom or tall transom motor.

Short transom being 16 inch and tall transom being 20 inch

Even that alweld, as good of a boat as they are, for what they are, may leave you wishing you had gotten a true mud hull. Slick bottom makes a BIG difference!

Hey man I'm new to mud boats I hunt a lot of flooded timber and marsh lands and iv been doing it with a out board but found a good deal on a mud motor. I'm just trying to find a decent boat for the 23 hp so the actual mud boats are just smoother on the bottom?

Mud hulls are completely smooth bottom, no runners. Just saying you won't get full performance out of that motor if the hull isn't designed for it. And if you're running timber the .100" bottom won't hold up very long.

I had a 1548 G3 with a 27 Prodrive on it and it was a dog. Empty boat it would only do 21. I had to learn the hard way also because at the time there wasn't a custom builder or dealer close to me. Please don't make the same mistakes that a lot of us have done in the past.

what exactly is your budget? you can get a custom boat built for less than the cost of a new brand name boat in most situations. if that is not an option and you have to buy used, try your best to find a 1648 go devil hull.

Post subject:  Re: 23 Go Devil SD boat?

A lot of people around here use rough neck lowes tracker grizzley g3 alumacraft some gator trax and other aluminum boats and they do just fine for what im doing but im gunna keep looking for a mud hull.

Post subject:  Re: 23 Go Devil SD boat?

I suggest the custom route as well. Getting my boat built how I want it for a good amount cheaper than a similar size and layout "production" mudboat...My hull is going to be thicker than similar sized production models too.

I run a 1744 alweld smooth bottom .100 with a 23 and it does great had a 1448 mod v before and wanted a new boat after 10 minutes a short boat can't ballance the weight of a SD. I thought I would be just hunting marshes then I found a stumpy lake to hunt and just going slow put dents in itwhen hanging it up on a stump. get at least .125 or your going to be throwing the hull away. Now I wish I would have spent an extra 1000$ and got a heavier duty rig. Love the boat and size it runs great stable night and day difference in speed handling load carrying over a 14' boat. Long and skinny with small SD is key 1740-48 1840-44
