Post Lake Guntersville vs Weiss Lake
I am not asking for anyone to give me the location or locations to their duck hole. What I am wanting to know is the differences in these two bodies of water? They are in close proximity of each other, I see post on line about Guntersville but not so much about Weiss. What special rules if any do you have to follow on the two? What is the population of birds on the two lakes, hunting presure on them etc?? I am new to the area and just looking for some helpful advice to try and keep me out of trouble. (seems I find it no mater what though) I have plenty of knowledge about hunting on the coast of both Carolinas and in south GA / AL just not upper GA or AL. Thanks in advance for any help on this

Lake Guntersville is owned by TVA which allows hunters to exit their boats with firearms and hunt from islands etc. Weiss Lake is an Alabama Power lake and you cannot exit the boat with a firearm. You must hunt from your boat.

Lake Guntersville holds lots of wintering ducks - mainly Gadwalls and divers. Pressure is EXTREMELY HIGH at Guntersville. It seems that the number of hunters double every year. With that being said, there is still some decent hunting at the right place and time.
Weiss Lake seems to be much less pressure but not as many ducks... although I know some guys that do very good certain times of the year up there. I haven't hunted Weiss Lake much so I cant really give you any good advice there.

Weiss can be very hard to navigate. You'll go from 40 ft to 2ft and stumps with no rhyme or reason. Plus you have to deal with draw down on Weiss during the winter so the waterline maybe 20-30 yds from the bank.

Thanks for the heads up. I did plenty of scouting on several trips over to harpoon some fish at night. Its a sad day when the opener is messed up by Duck Dynasty A holes. Any time I put in at a landing going hunting I have at least 3 different spots in mind just in case someone else beat me to the hole that night. Needless to say this is what scouting is for. Long story short, set up off the river, 3 boats come in, 1st boat sneaks in only using trolling motor and sets up 60 yards on opposite side of point from us. Yes I let them know we where set up there, and to not hit my decoys. He said that he saw them, must not have. Other two boats came in saw we where there and did what every experienced duck hunter does... moves on to the next spot. Thanks to those guys.

Once the sun was up and we constantly watched birds flare off from the river once they entered the cut, only to see that the DD fans where in a white boat with the outboard trimmed up.

At least we got to hear some turkeys gobble!
