Been looking for a used sd for a while for my 1648 polarcraft. Currently have a long tail. Not many hit Craigslist in Iowa. When they do they go fast. Anyway I came across this ad. Price looks good. Wanted some opinions.

looks like the exact same blueprint design we used on a buddies twelve hp homemade build. The frame itself has held up to the light motor. The shaft and bearing design not so much. Check the shaft. His heats up as that design used bushings instead of bearings. His also throws a belt from time to time as the box is too small to cram a "pilot bearing" in. When you tention the belt it pulls the shaft up and creates a angle on the shaft. (I say pilot bearing because thats what I can think that it resembles on a manual transmission mating up to a motor and needing a pilot bearing)

Thanks for the input. I'm glad I asked. Would a 36hp be too much for my riveted jon? Whats the ideal size for my 1648?

I wouldn't go with a 36 on your boat. It would be too heavy. Just my opinion, your best bet would be a 12, 18 or 23 copperhead. I used to run a 18 copperhead on a 16x50 and it did great!
