The carp they shoot are an invasive species that has no predetors.
they eat the grass which holds the eggs of many species such as bass, bream, and sac-a-lait.
I don't think there is anything wrong with shooting carp. Also not many carp are caught on rod-n-reel, so the only way to thin them out is by bowfishing them.
If it wasn't for bowfishing the carp would take over the lakes, which would eliminate all the other fish.

I shoot redfish and flounder, but I do eat those so there is no waste.

a big gar is delicious! Tastes a whole lot better than a largemouth bass.

The truth is, when we go out and have a bad night we usually take the few fish we shoot and donate them to my neighbor who is hispanic and grew up eating them. We don't care for anything but the big gar. We also use them as fertilizer in our gardens which makes my maters plump! So you might consider that eatin em? But most of the time when we shoot tournaments and a couple hundred fish are shot. We donate them to local gator farms, local farms, or fertilizer companies. Gator farms are more than happy to meet us at 3 am for several hundred pounds of meat!
