Post subject: | New GT rig on order!! A few questions... |
Made the drive to the shop last week. Bubba was very helpful. Got set with a new 18x54 Extreme hull with the 35GTR. Options are: Pointed bow, hydroturf, natgear camo, rigid duallys, MK55lb maxxum trolling motor, spud pole kit, 2" reciever, aluminum trailer. I hunt mostly saltwater marsh but the 2 trips/year to timber justifies the need for the pointed bow. I have a few questions...I didn't get a rod/gun box and have rethought it and want a removable one. Any reviews on them? I ordered it with the freshwater 55lb MK trolling motor, will it hold up to the salt or should I go ahead and make the call to change it to the salt. The only pedestal mount is on the front deck, I think I want 2 more spaced out on the floor for fishing, and riding. Anyone have ideas for placement? Also, the degree of the rake on the pointed bow is more than the flat front, will it be super noticable when fishing? Thanks for the help and comments as long as they are constructive ![]() |

Also, it's coming with the new 30" shaft, and I plan to put a new 3 blade on order. |

Gun box is just a preference. I made my front hatch large enough to store guns up there to free up floor space. And if they are in cases a lot of times they just end up on the floor of the boat. I would also go salt water TM. |

I could be wrong, but it seems like people are having more luck with the 3 blade prop if the motor is modded. Might want to stick with the 2 blade. |

Congrats. I got same boat. I have a rod box removable I don't even use it sitting in garage. I just throw them in boat box took up space and added weight however I like a wide open boat. My box has two seat mounts in the top and was used by previous owner to ride people in center line of boat. I bass fish out of mine all time( pointed bow) I'm not sure what the concern is? Works great for me Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk |

I like the moveable sears because it gives you flexibility. I do have a seat base and seat in the deck to fish with. Congrats on your new boat order. I really like the Extreme model they make. Those guys make some good looking rigs. |

I love my boat. The only thing I hate about it is me choosing to mount the seat bases. Go with something that is movable. Im pretty sure im going to have 3 seat base holes in my floor with nothing in them this year. Gonna just go with the cooler and regular chairs. |

Damn! Just typed a big ol reply and it disappeared! You're gonna love that boat. I like my pointed bow even just running marsh. I think it looks better, plus it seems to help just accumulating grass, trash, and lillies in the boat. My old square bow boats seemed to break everything off running WOT and toss it right back in the boat. Mine now is totally open and I love it. I had gun boxes in my last two and they're nice but I don't miss em and prefer the extra room. I totally agree with the moveable seat bases, they are nice hunting out of a boat blind but in the way seems like 90% of the time. Wile setting up the blind, running to and from, getting in and out of the boat to cross levees. I had them before and now just use hunting buckets with swivel seats and back rests. I DO really wish I had a small drivers box for the few things that I always like to have in the boat year round....Qbeam, extra rope, spare plug, fuses, a few tools, skeeter spray, etc. I may get a 12"x24" or so box built and bolt it down on the rear passenger side for that. |

Like everyone else has said if you mainly fish saltwater get the saltwater series trolling motor. Go with the Riptide SM 55/L&D/H model. It has the 52" shaft and the extra shaft length comes in handy when I'm standing on my Yeti sight fishing reds. I have the removable rod box in my boat and I love it. My rods are expensive and I like the fact that I can store them safely without having to worry about them getting broken by bouncing around on the floor of the boat. Its also removable so I can take it out when I'm not fishing. Also as far as the seats go, just get a ice chest that has a snap on cushion. You have to bring the cooler with you any ways so might as well use it as your passengers seat too that way you can cut down on the clutter and extra weight in the boat. I hope this helps. |

Thanks all for the replies. I plan on calling Bubba today to add a few removable seats to my order, and to change the trolling motor to the saltwater version. The more I thought about it, the more it makes sense to not put permanant pedestal mounts. I love the idea of a removable gun box, but in all reality, I've never had one and I've paid good money for my gun cases ![]() |

Ari, i put on a fresh water trolling motor and i fish coastal bays. After about 20 hours of fishing, the roll pin that goes in the prop shaft rusted out. I replaced it with a stainless one. We will see how long the unit holds up. It's not looking good so far. I rinse it with allot of fresh water. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk |

You gettin' catwalks built? Wasn't mentioned, so I presume not, but having a catwalk in the 5" range would be nice to have. You could have a section of one side converted into storage/rod locker/gun box and it wouldn't take up much floor space. |

They make them to where they C-clamp around the shaft about 3-4 inches above the motor part |

New rig is on the way and I have a few more questions...I ordered with a pointed bow. Started hunting timber a few times a year, and I'm not sure if it's enough to justify losing the space up front and being a little narrower in the front. Also considering have them add on a power pole. Also, ordered with nat gear camo, and I have a hard time imagining what it would look like in the marsh. Thoughts are greatly appreciated. Thanks a bunch. -Ari P. |

Spud poles will do the same as the power pole for a lot cheaper. Personally, I don't see the need for a PP on a tiller. |

Have 2 spud holes put up front and make a "bull bar" to insert into spuds.... The bull bar is made to mimic a pointed bow..... just slap it on when you hunt timber..... you drink the kool aid, id rather drink the whiskey and raise hell!!!! |

Called today! I had them remove the pointed bow option. Also added exhaust, and plan to build a bar to fit into my 2" receiver. I also plan to go ahead with the powerpole, upgrade the trolling motor from the 12v saltwater MK to a 24v saltwater MK, and taking off the spud pole kit. Also, adding an extended deck for fishing, and gigging. Your thoughts and ideas have really gotten me thinking. Thanks all, I couldn't be more excited and FIRED UP!! |
