My new GTR rig pickup date is fast approaching. I'm having a hard time deciding whether or not I am going to order the powerpole or not. The boat: 18x54 Extreme hull, loaded. The motor: GTR35LS. Having a saltwater trolling motor, yada yada yada. To the point!!: I hunt, and plan to fish out of it quite a bit also. Im considering adding an 8ft blade. Pros/cons of doing so, if anyone has any experience with them. Thank you. |

Have you considered the ipilot trolling motor system from minn kota? It has spot lock to within 10ft. It also had a ton of other cool features. It would cost about the same as a power pole and trolling motor combined. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk |

Do you fish in an area that has any current or will be fishing in open water that could be affected by strong wind? If the answer to both of those questions is no, do you know about the new power pole mirco? I have been selling the hell out of those since they came out earlier this year. They are 1/2 the cost of a blade, no hydraulic pump to worry about, the spike can be taken out so you dont have to deal with a big pole sticking up off the back of the boat when it is not deployed, completly wireless but has buttons on it incase you lose your remotem, super ligth weight and pretty small/compact.........other than not being a very strong unit (I wouldnt use it on a bay boat) they are bad ass for a small boat. |

Yes, I do fish in current, and it can get windy. I considered a larger trolling motor, but I'm also not trying to have a tank. 2 batteries and 9 gallons of fuel plus my big arse is already some weight. |

A 6' .75" stainless cajun anchor with 15' of line is way more effective than any powerpole will ever be and WAY more cost effective. |

I'm going with the Minn Kota Talon. The reason being is it's electric (12v) and easily disconnected if need be. I'd highly recommend getting a 24V TM. |

Power Poles are nice, however they need a lot of maintenance. Should have better luck on a small light boat vs. a large heavy bay boat. With that being said, it would be hard for me to fish without them, I highly recommend them. |

I have 2 8" blades on my boat and they're awesome. Stay away from the Talons they're junk. You won't be disappointed if get 1 |

I fish water less than 5' most of time if your setting anchor in 10' put out an anchor... If you wade fish and make mile long wades... You'll be glad to have boat be able to follow you with a push of a button. |

Deff put dual power poles you wont regret it. I have your boat ipilot is not what its cut out to be. buy a cheap trolling motor and add dual power poles. |

Ipilot works fine on my rig and is very handy if your not at the TM ie working lure up on casting deck or poling platform. I do wish they had a better foot pedal for my brand ipilot but i bought first version. I wouldn't hesitate selling the 12v and upgrading to 24v for longer trolls and ability to combat heavy winds on the bay. |

Does he not realize how quickly you can set a Cajun anchor??? The only times I've had to throw them more than once is in 12-15' of water when the tide is hauling ass! Then, to move, one quick jerk frees it up. It's not like pulling up a danforth and then having to get the mud off of it... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

If I was buying a boat to fish, I wouldn't think twice. I use the cajun anchor in the mud boat but "I LOVE MY POWER POLE!!!" ![]() And Barnes, ![]() I can't justify putting one on a duck hunting boat but miss the PP when fishing from it. |

I agree for a bay boat, but this is for a mud boat. Also, to save $1500, I'll go with the Cajun anchor every time! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

What am I missing here... Won't a 8' spud pole do the same dang thing for less than $100? |

I think it all depends on what the boat is used for. Sight fishing or bow fishing boats like Ddms dual rig will catch another gear with a PP. No disagreement that I wouldn't put one on my duck hunting boat though. You would also spend a thousand dollars in spud poles due to bending them like pretzels |

Why do we keep bringing up different boats? He's got an 1854 GT Extreme. It's used for hunting and fishing. That's the question at hand. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

If you don't have one now you won't know the difference. Go with the cajun & save the money for other stuff. And coot, size is only relative when talking about sex organs & horsepower. ![]() ![]() |

Saw these on fb. A micro anchor, the cat seems to like them. |

Spud pole is the cheapest. Most of the flats I fish no anchor is needed. On bigger water we typically drift spots. |
