Sorry, I'm sure it's been discussed before but couldn't find much doing a search. Is there a clear winner on the shipping? I have a business that can be shipped to.

Let me know some thoughts, thanks, Matt

Thanks, that was brilliant.

I was talking more about truck lines, ups, ??? Also, approximate costs?

A whole forum full of knowledge here, surely someone's shipped a motor before....???

I looked into shipping a GTR from Indiana to South Louisiana earlier this year. If I remember right it was going to be about $350 through Uship.com. I didn't feel confident in sending someone thousands of $ for something I could not see in person. So I bit the bullet and drove my butt there and picked it up in person. Fuel and 1 night motel cost me $300. Piece of mind, Priceless!

I have shipped a Mudbuddy motor from Idaho to Wisconsin for $195, a Prodrive from Louisiana to Idaho for $280 and an 1852 boat hull from Iowa to Idaho for about $450.

All on uship.com. Great site. Post your load and get bids. Shippers are rated by feedback, just like buyers / sellers on eBay.

This is an old thread but does anyone know if I can ship a motor directly to my house or does it have to go to through someone that can take freight?

I've always had to have my motors shipped somewhere that has a forklift. YMMV.

I've shipped a few motors.
It really all depends on what trailer is used.
Everytime I ship a motor, I request a trailer than has the loading platform that goes from ground level, up to the trailer. I don't know the real name for it. Maybe a hydraulic lift or samtin?
Anyway, I had the truck come straight to my house, and us slide the pallet on the lift gate and then he was able to put it where he needed it on the trailer with his pallet lift.

I've also done it at a business and used forklift.
Another thing to look into, is on Uship, sometimes you can ask the company for a cheaper rate if you bring it to their warehouse. I did that also. they unloaded it from my truck with forklift and put it on their trailer.
Uship.com is the easiest and best priced for shipping stuff like this.

You’ll need to ask for a lift gate if your getting it shipped to your house. Call several different carriers for quotes as the prices actually do vary a lot. If you can get it shipped to a commercial address it’s often cheaper. If there is a UPS store in your area they will let you ship it to their address, and you pick it up there as long as it’s the same day. Think they charge around $15 for that service, but it was around $50 cheaper. Most carriers will include a surcharge for a lift gate, so if you know anybody that has a loading dock it will be cheaper that way. I’ve never used uship, but that price quoted above sounds reasonable to me.
