Post subject: | 2 or 4 bunks |
Well as i am expecting a boat this winter, i am in the process of refinishing a trailer and have some questions. Should i go with 2 or 4 bunk boards? Yes 4 may be a slight bit better but if i go with 2 to save a little on cost will they work effectively as long as they are placed correctly according to the braces positioning in the boat? Was thinking about going with 2 2x8 bunks that are 10ft long and adding hope poly board to the bunks instead of carpet. I would appreciate your thoughts and advice………..Thanks |

I've ran 4- 2x4 on edge (4" up 2"wide) on my last 2 trailers and has suited me well. Sent from my beeper |

Just don't want to cause hooks or issues in the bottom and wann make sure it will be stable |

Just make sure your boards run the full length of the boat. It sounds like you know enough to setup your trailer. |

2 would work but why not go with 4? We are talking and $25 worth of lumber to make sure you have plenty of surface for the boat to sit on. |

KC, I have a trailer waiting on Jay to finish up. I think I'm just gonna stick with the 2 bunks and just make sure they extend all the way back to the transom. |

The reason I'm running brackets is because according to my boat builder i will need to be able to adjust them to fit his boat as he does a little something different to his boats and i will need it adjustable |

If you're going to have to do something specific for the boat, I'd just wait till you get it and then build a couple angle iron brackets to fit it and then slap your boards on. Much easier way to go if you wanna keep the hundo in your pocket. I don't see why 2 or 3 flat 2x6's wouldn't work in the middle though, I thought the only thing different on one of Jays hulls was the chine, the trailer bunks shouldn't interfere with that I wouldn't think. |

true I wouldn't be opposed to 3 or even four, but i can always add more if needed. probably just gonna roll with 2 wider boards and if i need to change when i get it, then ill modify |

I have 3 on my trailer but my boat is only 38" bottom with 5 braces. So I have a 12' 2x6 down the middle one and 8' 2x4s on the outside most braces. Just put the pvc trim from home depot or lowes on top with the fake wood grain facing up and countersink the holes. Works great for me. |
