Post Howdy...from Kansas.
OK, well I'm not "really" a yank...I'm from a bit South of here but Uncle Sam decided to deposit me here some years ago and it just stuck. Anyhow, here I am.

Everyone knows that there's not many ducks in Kansas, but I'm snooping around because I've just about decided to pull the trigger on an E.B.A.D.S. I really don't need anything bigger for the water around here and it'll only be me and a buddy an my hound most of the time - so anything more just doesn't make sense in my case.

I'm trying to get a handle on which mfg and what type of motor. Between the brand loyalties, the "need for speed" and other koolaid drinkin' posts it's kinda tough to sort through.

I've just about decided that I want a LT (although I might be swayed), since I'll mainly be running the KS river and a few of the local marshes - none of the runs will be more than a mile or two. I think that would work pretty well for me and best fit my budget. Now I just need to settle the "build vs. buy" argument and which outfit to go with....I'm intrigued by the SWOMP, Stumpjumper, Scavenger and PPF but have somewhat gone into analysis paralysis...I could put something together, but there's some appeal to leaving it to the experts too.

Anyhow, I'm just checking in...you might see me nosing around a little for info or a deal on a good used unit - so I figured I'd better introduce myself before doing so.

Jeff

Long tail route I would go with the swomp.

PPF, well built, well priced, they have a surface drive that will be out soon also. I'd give them a call.

My nephew played baseball at Pratt Junior College in the jayhawk league. Being a boy from the swamps of Louisiana and a duck hunter all his life, he had to find a spot to hunt ducks. Well, they connected with some farmers who had ponds. They damn near murdered the mallards every time. He said it was the best hunting by far he had ever done. Those mallards wanted in no matter what he did or how exposed the hunters were. They would hunt in flooded corn fields and scraps or natural pot holes. So from this I'd say if you can find spots like that the hunting is excellent in Kansas. Otherwise, its a vast flat landscape with long straight roads and houses few and far between. He said the deer were huge, too.

Thanks, Guys.

It seems that as long as I go w/ a major mfg. (Backwater, PPF, Scavernger, etc...) that I really can't go wrong. It just turns into a Ford vs. Chevy debate.

Now that's established and I'm just looking for the best "deal"...I need to know what size. I'm reading that 7hp will push the EBADS OK, but I tend to be with the "more is better" crowd...so, does anyone have any first hand experience (or at least good info) on what size I should shoot for?

I'm thinking about the swomp glider with a 13hp predator. I'll be hunting the Kansas river, Neosho, Arkansas, and several wetlands.. What part of Kansas are you in?
