I am wanting to get a mud motor for my duck boat. Not sure if I should get a long tail or a surface drive. I have a 1860 g3 boat any advise pros and con's would be great.

with that big of a boat you will probably want a surface drive, but that depends on your riding. as for size,, get the biggest HP motor you can afford.

SEARCH FEATURE IS YOUR FRIEND.

how can we tell you the best motor for you, when you dont tell us what you hunt, where its at, the hardness of the bottom, stumps, grass, soft mud, clay, sand etc...
Little more info needed

I hunt marshes and lakes with mud that you sink to your calves to mud you sink to your chest in . lots of people say long tails are more of work horse and will push me through the weeds and mud better. But surface drives are faster and won't go as far. Does this sound right I have never owned one.

I say surface drive the Longtails are a lot of work and they are so slow, I have a 17x 54 custom flat n I run 28-30 mph with it , motor wise I got the 35 hp mudbuddy with exhaust , heads and single carb . I've yet to get stuck with it

Just swapped from a LT and got a 36 prodrive and will never go back to a long tail. They do have their place they r good for starting off in shallow hard bottom like bry said. Other than that I've alrdy gone place I couldn't have mad it with my lt. And my rig prolly weighs 5 times would my old one did

Get one of all them that way you can talk shit to everyone! I run MB 44v. Personally I think MB, GTR & PD are all good from watching the different videos that are posted on here. And they all have problems from reading the threads.

They all have pros and cons. Right now gtr is the fastest I don't no personally what they will go through pd is a work horse I have a 2048 custom boat 3/16 floor 21 inch sides 3 batteries 13 gallon of gas and 3 ppl 550-600 lbs and run 23 steady. And it will go through 100 yards of shit so thick u can walk on it another up side to of is the reverse and also anything new they come out with they make it comparable with all models I don't know anything about mb ads I just came from a 24 mb lt and it did good just not as nice as my pd. but really u can't go wrong with any of them. That's y they r the top 3 of this entire mud motor world. Research what they r and what they'll do and test drive
