looking into getting a 25gtr, I would want open floor plan, standard 48' deck and have the drop deck

wanted to see if anyone ran this set up and see what speeds you are getting.

thanks

I dont think your gonna find much info on the 16x54 only person I know who had anything close was takem gator. He had a 25 on a 1554 not long after they came out but hes gotten rid of it since then I believe. I would go with the 48" if it were me

i dont want/ need alot of boat. currently have a 2010 1754 grizzly w/ 40 merc and a 2014 1548 w 18hp copperhead... just want to sell both of those rigs and get a .125 gage mud boat with a 23-25hp sd.. something small enough i can get into skinny backwater but big enough i can bass fish from.. all i need is a front deck because if i fish with someone they can stand on a cooler in the back or something.. i fish alone most of the time. as far as hunting i usually hunt 2 people but i think with the 16' boat i could take a 3rd and it wouldnt be much of a problem. we hunt light gear and usually just 12-20 decoys. i love my 1548 but it is a weldbilt crawdad so its not a true mud hull and doesnt have much of a front deck. tracker grizzly is nice but after running the 15' boat i sure like the ease of how lite it is..

figured this may be the size boat that would fit my wants/ needs

The 54 will run better

You are not going to like your speeds with 3 people. If you are not running far it is ok. I mostly hunt alone or with my wife (125lbs) which is ideal for the 25hp.

My 1548 weldbilt with 18hp will run a steady 16 with 3 people... I was surprised how well it did, that's 3 good soze boys 210,225,and 270
Very lite gear (guns, gun bags, and 12 decoys) plus small battery, 3 gal of gas, and misc boat gear.

This is in deep water*

I know small boats with a small block aren't built for speed but as long as I can hunt 3 people and get up over 20mph I'll be satisfied

Jimmy will probably recommend the 48 then, if that's what GT said!!

I have a 1554 extreme pushed by the 25. It will push 2 and a moderate hunt load on plane 20-22. 3 people no hunt load - same. 4 people or 3 and a load - your plowing. I love mine though and primarily hunt by myself and booze cruise with the wife.

I agree with the plowing. The first day I ever ran my boat I had 3 people in and nothing else. We did 18mph deep water and 22-23 shallow.

I ran 3 people(210,180,300), boat blind, a dozen goose decoys, small ice chest, 9 gal of fuel. We did 12-13mph plowing. I guess not all 25hp are the same...

I was told a 1648 push by the 25gtr should do 20mph all day with 3 people.

I don't see used rigs like this for sale as often as I do bigger 1748 or 1754 w/35gtr

I wonder why that is? Are people with the smaller gtr's happier with their set up or do most people just get the larger rig

The bigger rigs are more popular. That's why you see so many. Probably 80% or more bigger rigs with 35s as opposed to 20% or less with 25s.

Gotcha, I'm in central Alabama and their aren't many people that run surface drives. I've owned one for about 6 months am very impressed. They must be gaining popularity because I've never seen one on the lake my parents live on in the past 14 years. I've sinve seen 2 different rigs in the past few months.

This may be a dumb question but currently I have an 18hp copperhead. How much louder is a 35? I think that this motor is fairly quiet for an air cooled motor. I ask this because I've seen videos with guys driving 35hp motors and wearing ear plugs or ear phones

If you keep it stock it's not that bad. Just imagine riding on a big mower with the blade disengaged

The 54 is not the way 2 go for sure.
