Post Newbie Question
Hello all,
I am a new member here and this is my first post. I have been doing some research but just can't seem to find what i'm looking for. I have a 1556 Havoc DBST with a stock GTR 35. Have been running the boat with no problems until yesterday. For the first time I really had the boat loaded down. I am guessing around 1000 pounds of load only including people and hunting gear. It would not get on top of the water and run. It would just plow no matter what I did. I talked to gator-tail earlier and they said try a 2 blade prop but I haven't read anything good about 2 blade props. Please educate me on what I should do.

Get a bigger boat.

Seriously though, there's not enough lift with that size hull to plane out that kind of weight with the thrust you're providing. Lift is created from a combination of speed and planing surface. You have to have enough of both to create enough lift to get on top of the water.

A bigger boat is out of the question right now being that I've only had it 2 months. Just looking to see if there are any other options that might help get me where I need to be.

Mod your motor and keep on the hull you have or sell the hull and get a bigger hull and keep the motor stock, regardless you Gunna be spending some good pennies lol. I got a 19ft with a stock PD and it can carry a load unbelievably

With a 1000# of shit you need a modded motor. Regardless of the hull. Heads carb exhaust be a good start.

for bottom end and load carrying capacity, heads are the way to go and I think most will agree. from what I've learned on here and learned from talking to other, head work really wakes the motor up.

also to save a little $$ take your stock exhaust to a shop and just have them gut it.

Braden, pulling the exhaust tonight to gut tomorrow. I can do that myself with no problem. On the heads, are you talking aftermarket heads, or having someone machine the stock heads.

Make sure you've got over 50 hrs on the motor before you re-work the heads.

I really appreciate all the help guys. I'm going to gut my muffler tomorrow and maybe add a carb in the near future. I'll have to wait until the summer to have the head work done do that i won't be using the boat as often and have a few more hours on it.

The stock GTR35 is a teaser. You will modify it before you're really happy.

Ok guys, one more question. Ran the boat this morning with me, dog, blind bag, and gun. When I got the motor trimmed right I was only turning 3600 rpms. Does that sound right? If I trimmed up any more i lost thrust.

no. if it was broke in correctly you should be turning 4100-4300. ive heard a few people with gtrs having this problem. a guy that I know I think had this problem. don't know why its a gtr problem since its the same motor. there is someone on here that can help with that.

Post Re: Newbie Question
I have the same motor on a 1648 alumacraft.(not a mud boat and everyone will tell you to get a mud boat) but im in the same situation with the boat not going to sell it for a while just going to run my set up as is till i get the right hull. But my motor is stock and with my boat loaded down with hunting gear dog and a buddy i still run upper 20's at 4010 rpm. ive found that my boat runs best at 3900 to 4200 any more and i feel loosing thrust and start slowing down. but also ive noticed in my hull depending on how deep the water is i can tell a difference in how hard the motor has to push to move. in deep water anywhere from 3 foot and deeper there is more drag and takes more to move but when i get in the river and go over sand bars (i know its bad on props but cant help it where im from) that are in the depth range of a few inches to a couple of feet the boat planes out better and feels like it is slidding across the water. i dont know if a mud hull will be able to tell a difference like i am in water depth. like everyone has said play with the motor, get to know it and figure out what your motor likes best on your hull.

Well guys I don't know what else to do. Set the governor high and ran it again unloaded. Same rpms and same speed. I can bump 27 mph off and on. Looks like mods are my only choice.

27mph isn't bad stock considering that hull isn't made specifically for a GTR. When did you get your motor? You might possibly have one of the 11pitch 3 blades that GT was offering before they went to the 10 pitch.

1000# is a good load my stage 2 would grunt trying to step that with the 3 blade also did u try move the weight around the boat my boat likes a front load and my brothers got same setup as me and runs best rear loaded

well guys after running the 2 blade it gets on deck much better. runs same rpms and speed but totes the load better. I have bigger problems now though, after a 200 mile round trip hunt saturday motor is about to fall slap off the boat. Welds and aluminum are ripped on both sides of the transom. Very lucky to have even made it home with the motor intact. I guess I will see just how good that life time warranty is.

Post Re: Newbie Question
Tim with Havoc has the best customer service I have ever dealt with in the hunting industry. My call was returned withing 30 minutes. He told me they had this problem with a hand full of boats and have redesigned the bracket to strengthen it. He is going to completely replace my boat instead of fixing it, but it gets even better. He asked me if there is anything I would change about my boat and of course I told him about the issues I was having with it not getting on step. He is going to replace my boat with a 1756 mst instead of a 1556 dbst and still get all the accessories my boat had. He put me on top of the list on the build list and is going to start building the boat TODAY. He said they will deliver it to me the beginning of next week and help me swap the motor over. Couldn't ask for better customer service.
