If yall had a 23 x 66 boat, 1/8 sides, 3/16 hunt deck, 6" cat walks, extended deck, 35 gal aluminum fuel tank, solid double bottom, bench seat and pods. What size trolling motor would you put on it?

For sure a 24V and possibly a 36V. You can always turn down a trolling motor and still get smooth performance. If you have any type of weeds, wind or current having the extra power is nice!

I have the largest 12V one on my fishing boat and my next trolling motor will be a 36V 100+ lbs of thrust.

i will say i have a 45lb on my 1748 and i really wish i had the 55. no way would i put a 55 on a 2366. a good wind would make that boat a sail!

Get a big one the first time. If you get in pretty good current and your tm don't have enough ass it's aggravating

24V, 90LB thrust minimum. my 12V 55lb thrust will not hold me in a good wind.

For fishing, as much thrust as you can afford. If you're bowfishing get even bigger than that lol.

He not listening. I talked to him about it a lil while ago and he says "I don't want the extra weight from the extra battery" I said r u fuking serious, that boat is giant and won't notice an extra battery or two. Then he said something about the space it takes up and once again I said THE BOAT IS FUKING HUGE!!! lol

Should a 55lb thrust 12v be plenty good enough for my boat. 19x48 solid 1/8 hull with a stock PD. Weight affects surface drive way more than an outboard

24v or 36v. In the 90lb thrust range or bigger. That's to much boat for a 12 v 55lb thrust. The wind has a lot grab onto with those high sides. Combine that with a good current and that 55lb will be straining. The conditions you run in play a big factor also. In protect canal with no wind is one thing but get out in the open with some wind and chop it's another. Get the highest thrust you can afford. You'll be sorry if you go to small

A 200 on that boat would be perfect. A 150 would be the smallest for me only if I couldn't afford a 200.

Nothing wrong with 3/16 on an outboard. You don't really have to cut weight with an out board like you do with a 35ho mud motor.

Might just be me... But I wouldn't have made it a 3/16 hull if I was gonna put an outboard on it. If he hits a stump with that 115 a dent in his hull is the least of his worries.. But that's none of my business. Carry on

I'd say .80-.100 on average. I'm sure there are exceptions going either way. Not saying he shouldn't have built the hull to last, just wondering why he's skimping on power everywhere. Considering he definitely didn't skimp on the boat lol

Any reputable builder will use 3/16 on a big boat. They do not want to fix cracks down the road and worry about their reputation. It's also easier to weld.

They make plate boats 1/4"+

3/16 is sufficient for most though, and its not uncommon at all on boats with 150+hp

A 12v 55lb would do fine.... If he put about 4 of them together

A 115 would shove it ok but a 150-175 would be ideal. A 225 console setup would be what I'd go for though. That big of a boat in front of a tiller is gonna be a pain in the ass.

12 volt motors do not have enough ass or last any where close to long enough. That big a boat needs a 24 volt in my opinion

He has barely any experience with trolling motors and my dad has about 40 years experience with them bc he bass fishes religiously or at least use to. So he knows a thing or two on what size boat needs what size trolling motor lol
