Post subject:  Pre-build surface drive questions???

Was gonna start on a surface drive motor for next season and have a few questions. I have searched all types of threads on different forums so ill try not ask obvious ones. I have already built a longtail and ran it a full season but sold it to get a sxs. So i have a little experience.

I already have a longtail prop laying around. Could i use it? Its a 9x7 but a little wore. I need to keep the prop size 9" and under because i run a couple wma's.

If so would i run a 1-1 gear ratio since the longtails are direct drive? I seen the recommended ratios but assumed those were for sd props.

I have an idea on how to keep the shaft in place from walking ahead possibly using a locking collar on a pillar block bearing but if anybody has any insite on the way they have their shaft housing set up.

Any ideas on tilt and trim?

Im not looking to copy anybodys design but a few pointers would be appreciated

No on the lt prop, no on the 1:1 ratio. Need a surface drive prop. Big difference! And start around 1.5:1 for ur ratio!

Im gonna do some more research on the prop. If i can get away with a lt prop for now i will.

I figured out my tilt and trim question. I was looking in 12 v electric hyraulic rams but they are classified as linear avtuators. You can find them for different weights and strokes. It will be pretty cool to have a homeade rig with working tilt
