Im doing a homeade build and have done a ton of research.

The only thing im having a problem is figuring out the length of outdrives. Mainly how are they measured?

Is it rear of belt housing to center of the prop, or center of the pulley to center of the prop, front side of the pulley to rear side of the prop?

Unless your buying parts from a mm manufacturer who gives a shit. Build it how you want it, whatever length you want it. But it's measured from the end of the shaft by the prop to the end of the shaft inside the belt housing on a MB.

All my buddies run outboards and i have a longtail now. Ive been reading threads where 27 s dont dig in the mud that great and 36 and 40s are for high hp and for deep dig. I was gonna do a 30 just to start with but didnt know what "30" out drive was considered. But i have a reference now. I can always change it later i just needed a basic measurement to start.

Outdrives are like underwear. Just pick one that you are comfortable with. They all have strengths and weaknesses.
