Post subject:  Battery Help?

I am about to buy a new battery to put in my boat and i need some input on good brands as well as types of batteries that i would need. The only thing this battery will be used for is to run a 12v handheld spotlight for frog hunting and running through the marshes watching out for stumps. It will not be used to start a motor or anything else for that matter. I need a battery with a long charge life and one that won't blow a cell after 1 or 2 seasons. any help appreciated.

You will probably get two trains of thought on this one. Some guys like to go cheap and replace them every year or two and some guys go expensive and hope for 4 years or more. I have had good luck with the Odyssey and Blue Tops for long lasting and they tend to be lighter. They are not cheap!

Buy something cheaper with a good warranty. Then with your savings, buy this guy and be worry free!

If you go with conventional deep cycle batts there are only two options and the very best I've ever run are NAPA brand and the next were Interstate DCM35, I think. Neither are crazy expensive and I've seen both last thousands of hours of hard use if properly charged and maintained. $80-100ish each

I have 2 interstate 35 series in my boat. About 4 years old. Two days before I take my boat out, I charge each battery on 2amp charge for 24 hrs

I went the big money route with the Optima Blue Top for my deep cycle. The starting battery is an el cheapo that came with the boat from Nonk J. Both still holding up after 3 years....so far.

I use the blem's from interstate 69 plus tax on any size you want. 12 month warranty. When they get weak I get two new ones.

If you can afford them, Optima Blue Tops. Those batteries are by far the best you can put in your boat. Look in the back of virtually any of the top BASS Elite anglers' boats. Unless they're being sponsored by another battery company, they're likely to be Optima brand. They're 20% lighter, hold a charge better than anything out there, and last longer. I've fished three days on a single charge on a 12/24 TM. They're just more expensive. If you dont want to drop that kind of coin, go with Interstate.

Buy a walmart Everstart deep cycle and you'll never have to buy another battery again. They have a great return policy if you can keep track of when the warranty is about to expire!
