a man at the boat landing was talking to me about my gtr and he told me that prodrive was working on instant reverse.did anybody else here of this??

I heard that there was at least one prototype that got shelved for one reason or another. I would not be surprised if they are still toying with the idea of instant reverse on top of FPR.

I've looked into this pretty extensively. But its wasn't instant reverse. It was a small planetary gearbox that would replace the clutch. The gearbox would go inbetween the two plates and take up the space where the clutch is. It would be a 1:1 gearbox and would have no effect on FPR. But what it would allow you to do is have reverse similar to an outboard. F-N-R and FPR, no clutch to burn up. I stopped looking into it due to cost. What got me thinking about it was the fact we use some small planetary gearbox here at Dow for various things.

I believe that was what PD was experimenting with.

I hope they stick with FPR. It defines the brand. I also like the new 2 blade shovel prop on my hen 3 lower unit.

My 2054 is to put it quite honestly fairly slow, but it's pulls in the mud like MF'er!! Also last weekend I had another guy (200lbs), 8 sacks of deer feed (50lbs each) 10gals of fuel, 2 batteries, and the boat jumps right up on plane and handles the load great! I definitely will not be winning any races but am more than happy with my boat so far!! Also without the FPR, I couldn't do half of what I do with it!

The idea of having a gearbox for instant reverse and still keeping the rotating lower unit for the thick stuff sounds pretty cool. The only downside would be extra weight and more shit to break.

Shiiiiiiiit........ Neg, we way past gear boxes. We're into space age cutting edge technology!

I have actually see the dixie instant reverse. The engine actually runs backwards. Now if they could just fix that oil pressure issue...
