Just picked up this rig, Hull is an 07 with all foam removed from floor and front deck. Motor is 2013 35hp GDSD. Only mod is a marshmellow muffler. I was expecting speeds close to 30mph. With me my wife and the yeti Im getting 24 maybe 25. So roughly 400 pounds in the boat plus two batteries. Fuel Tank is up front along with the biggest battery. Now today I had a load in it. me and buddy. (450 pounds) 2 labrador retrievers (125 lbs) two yetis (60 pounds) and some chairs. Ran 20 up river and 22 Down. Do these numbers seem right? Thanks Zac |

Seems like it should be faster. Some guys here have said before that this boat doesn't perform well with the 35. The godevil website recommends the 23-27 hp SD. But there could be a million things killing your speed. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Should be faster, you got the trim right? Prop ok? You running with that yeti up there or just like that in picture? My 16x48 doesn't like weight on deck, it's a dog with a person siting up there or a ton of deeks on deck. Seems to like the weight centered in boat. I have split bench/boxes and tend to keep cooler and person sitting on cooler in the split. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

The prop is fairly new and looks good. I haven't ran with just me in the boat. The yeti did ride on the front deck today, Yesterday with just me and my wife she rode on the bench and the yeti on the floor in front of her. |

Rpms? Giga had that set up, few others have run big blocks on the 16x44 and 48's. Renovator had a 16x48 with big block mud buddy and a prodrive modded to the moon. It was stupid fast. He eventually added a hunt deck to it and with two guys and kids it would still run around 30 with the prodrive. I'm ordering a 35 or 37 this week for my 16x48 will update later. My boat still has all floatation and is a 2010, aside from the rear bench/box. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Transom was built up to accommodate the high transom motor. Previous owner said he was seeing 30 with two people and a cooler.... he seems like a honest guy. He said speed was checked right after a new prop was put on in February. Im gonna send back the extra prop that came with the rig and order a tach tomorrow. |

Also what is the rail thing on the back lower portion of the boat? It starts where the front guide rail post comes up. |

Spray rail.... Basically gives the boat more lift in the water, supposed to help plane heavier loads and keep the spray directed away from the boat when running on plane. |

yeah. I want reverse. More speed. And an open floor plan. I also enjoy buying boats cleaning them up, painting them and selling them. |

Makes sense. I wonder if it actually works though. Just wish I was getting more speed. |

Post subject: | Re: 1648 Go Devil with 35hp GDSD Surface Drive Speeds |
Looked a little harder at your transom. I believe this may be where your lost speed lies.... The optimum measurement should be ~20" from the BOTTOM of the boat. That top piece of channel on your transom is 1x4". You only need to add another 4" to the short transom to get you to 20. The added section looks to be taller than 4" and may cause the motor to be mounted too high. If the transom height was measured at the top edge of the tapered transom this can be possible. With the boat sitting on the trailer, take a measurement from the very bottom of the boat (or top of the bunk directly under the transom) to the top of your transom. Let's see what that measurement is. The 1648 will roll out with a big block SD but loses speed quickly once you add any significant weight. Just not enough planing surface to support it. |
