I am making the trek to texas next weekend from illinois. Jay will have my boat done and I will be picking the motor up at Gatortail on the way. My trailer I purchased used and fabbed it up for my boat and refinished it. I will be pulling it down empty and it likes to bounce a lot any ideas on adding weight to lessen the bounce. thought about sand bags but no goo way to attach them

Take some plywood, clamp it on, then strap the sandbags or some concrete pads to it. You can use the concrete pads for something eventually.

Think a barrel full of water wedged between the bunks would work?

Barrel full of coal strapped on it. Leave the barrel and the coal there for someone to heat their home with. Everybody but Obama loves coal.

I hauled my trailer empty from Atlanta to New Orleans. Used ratchet straps to secure some heavy scrap steel to the frame. Stopped the bounce and never came loose all the way.

Let it bounce. I hauled my trailer empty from wichita to Fort smith arkansas. It didn't come apart or leave the hitch

I like to pull them with a truck. Being an empty trailer, you could probably do it with a car if you wanted. But it would be a pain to install a hitch unless you already have one. So use a truck.

Let me add that the trailer I went to get my boat with was a trailer for a 22' wake board boat. So it weighed like 1800lbs by itself, I just ratchet strapped my boat to the teailer. the trailer my boat is on currently, didn't come until after I got my boat home

How about balancing the tires? I hade the same issue. A $20 balance job does wonders. I don't buy trailer tires now unless they throw in balancing.

Adding weight works, but just hids real problem. Bearing and tires will last longer and run cooler also.

Geez it amazes me how people "overthink" things....when in all reality there's not much thinking involved in things like this at all.

Looking for advice?

Have someone else balance your tires and take a little air out of your tires. They won't bounce. A well balanced tire will run smooth. Taking air out with no load will soften ride and not damage tire. Add more pressure when you put boat on.

Pick up every hitch hiker you can find and make them ride on it.
