 In A dilemma
Trying to decide what Primer to use for my boat. I have using KEM 400 for the paint, but am stuck between Nason Etch Primer, and Sherwinn williams Wash Primer. Has anyone used an Etch Primer? how does it work? which is easier to apply? Ive heard the wash you need to apply paint within an hour or so of priming. please point me in the right direction Thanks

 Re: In A dilemma
Wash and etch primer are usally the same thing, the activator is mostly acid to clean and bite. The only etch primer ive ever had a problem with is master pro. Never try that one, bottom of the barrel shit. It should be a thin looking primer and is transparent so dont put on too thick trying to get a solid color from it. Two medium coats. Some of them have a short topcoat window but most are 24hr ish. If u miss the recoat window just give it a light scuff and go.

 Re: In A dilemma
Mine is holing on great this time with nason etch. I use a bristle brush for bedliner preping but a 120 /180 grit pass will work good. 80 grit seems to be too rowdy . Then give an acetone wipe down. 1 coat will get it done if you have a good hand with a paint gun. I love this bristle brush if u have a buffer laying around to put it on

 Re: In A dilemma
XIM 400 from Sherwin Williams. Comes in a rattle can and cost about $20. I used 5 cans on my 1648 inside the hull and outside. Been three years and still holding up great. Remember prep is everything.
