Do you guys do anything special to help keep your boats from freezing to the trailer? I had to jack mine through potholes this morning for about 20 minutes to get it to break free. That's a great way to get beat to the spot!

Kick it.

It's simple. get a mud motor. shoot ducks in the face.

Move to a warmer state

Back it into the water enough to float the trailer and let the water thaw it.

Haha don't go beating your trailer to death to get it free. Like will said, just submerge the bunks and it'll break free in a few seconds.

Essential cold weather gear:

gloves
wool cap with ear flaps
blow dryer with battery plugin adapter
silicon for throttle cable or piss on it.

Throw boiling water on the windshield

It will float the trailer for a couple min then trailer will drop off. Just be careful in current it will drift off the ramp

Tie a rope to the back of the trailer to hold it strait.

Just put the thing in the water and let the motor do the work for you.

Get rid of the carpet and put some of the plastic options on bunks and gatorglide bottom of boat. No more frozen boat to trailer.

I suspect he screws in the valleys so its not an issue

Here is my frozen boat to the trailer story. It was cold out when I went to the river. Upon arrival I unhooked the boat transom straps and the chain from the front. I was reaching in for my net drag to throw it onto the rocks to hold the boat while I backed the boat in and pulled the trailer out. Pop goes the boat breaking loose from the trailer and that thing shot off the trailer like it was shot out of a cannon. It clears about ten feet of shallow water concrete ramp. Hits the water and away it went down stream. I had not grabbed the net drag yet so she is a drift and hauling ass down river. The river was rising and current was strong.
I call the lock and dam lockmaster and advised him my boat was a drift without a captain and asked if he would call out on the radio as barge traffic is heavy at times in my area.
By the time he got done with his brilliant dumb ass super brain power he had the Coast Guard enroute to my location to rescue me. I have a marine radio I use to communicate with the lock and dam and boat captains. I heard the alert go out and it was totally crazy what was put out over the air.
I called back to get the record straight and I was unable to speak with the lockmaster as he was engauged in a boating accident.
So I call my duck hunting buddy who gets his boat out and comes and unloads his boat at the ramp. He takes me down river and we find the boat tied up to a docked barge. I hop out and thank the guys on the barge and head out to run the river. My phone was blowing up with calls from the Coast Guard. I finally spoke to someone who could comprehend that my boat slipped off the trailer and was a drift unoccupied.
Next thing I know the Sheriffs Office I work for is calling my wife to see if I was okay. So my wife is now in a panic and starts calling me. I have my cell under my heavy cloths since it was freezing cold and did not answer it until later when I stopped to take a break.
Wow is all I can say.

The best advice I can give you, other than move to a warmer state, is not to own a boat if you can't figure how to get it off the trailer, without racing around the parking lot with it.
Any how you have the money to buy a boat doesn't mean you should have one. Now I know others thought of this but didn't want to hurt your feelings

I put the CALIBER bunk slides on my bunks. one piece whole length of bunk board and screws go into bottom of board. had mine on 2 yrs now and are holding up great.

If the best advice you can give about boats freezing to a trailer is to move to a warmer state maybe you should check your experience instead of being an asshole

I have owned a boat for the last 23 years in South Louisiana and that has happened to me a total of 1 time where just a little nudge wouldn't get it off.

There wouldn't be much of a conversation at the launch, cause it wouldn't take very long for the boat to separate from the trailer!

If the boat was strapped down, shouldn't it have not moved? Causing the boat to stay frozen to the trailer? Lol

DOT look now I'm trying my best here don't push the damn issue. I get it,, it worked but honestly it WASN'T the best option.

Bodies of water don't generally hover around freezing. Even when the surface at the edges is frozen, the large majority of the water is at least a couple degrees warmer. Most cases, its much closer to 40 degrees than to 32, even though there's ice at the edges. In a cup, the cubes are dealing with a small volume of water. If it's cold, the cubes don't melt as fast because the transfer of heat isn't happening, as there is none to speak of. In a body of water that's more than 16 ounces (lake, pond, river, etc), the ice from your boat won't cool the water around it enough to slow melting at the joint of your boat and trailer. And with carpeted bunks, the layer of ice isn't so thick that 35 degree water would take more than 5 minutes to melt it.
Yeah, driving around the parking lot pot holes worked. So would letting it sit in the water for a couple minutes. Near freezing water still isn't freezing (and in many cases isn't as cold as we humans give it credit for being), and the ice holding your boat to the trailer isn't inches thick and solid, so it doesn't take much to melt it.

Here's a permanent fix for you guys who have problems with your boat freezing to your bunks. Take that carpet off and replace it with vinyl bunk covers. Your boat will never freeze to the carpet again and if your bunks are pressure treated, you wont have to worry about the chemical reaction of the costics on your hull. But be forwarned...if you have GG on the bottom, be sure you're trailer is in the water before you unhook the bow. A one handed nudge is all you need to get it off the trailer. A slight push is all it'll take if you dont have GG.
