so I'm looking to make my own push pole out of a 1-1/4" or 1-1/2" wooden dowel I'm trying to find a push pole foot to put on the end of it.id like to find something i can just slide over the dowel and epoxy and screw in place. has anyone done this before or anybody have any recommendations or pics of what they have done?

How long are you going to make it? I bet the dowel is not gonna las long. Get a piece of aluminum pipe. Prolly end up lighters more durable than a wooden dowel

I think I can get an 8-10 foot dowel. Just wanted something that would float

8 to 10 foot might be OK. Aluminum will float if you put a stopper in it.

Would be a lot easier to get a foot that will slide in to a piece of conduit than one that slides over a dowel

i have a pushpole with a wooden dowel about 12' long. i found a duckbill foot that just slipped on the end and i drilled a hole through it and put a bolt in there. has worked for probly 10 years.

Just make one out of pvc. Buy a T, 2 45s, and 2 caps. Make sure the 45s slide over the T, and the caps slide over the 45s. I've make several push pole feet out of pvc. Cheap and very effective. I found an old fiberglass pole that was a pole vault and made a foot for it out of pvc. Best push pole I've ever had. I've also made theme out of dowls like you are doing. If you dont want the pvc foot just buy a duck bill foot. Academy sells them for around $10

I got the hillside castings stuff, good stuff, but don't count on it floating. The forked limb sounds like a good cheap solution if your after cheap and a floater.

I am thinking about buying the push pole foot as well as the spud handles and spikes. It says it fits in a schedule 40 aluminum pipe. Just courious if the aluminum gets hot to the touch during summer months? Also is aluminum electrical conduit schedule 40? Thanks for the info.

It's for 1 inch schedule 40 aluminum pipe. So long as the id is 1 inch they will work. Mine haven't got hot yet but I haven't had them in the heat of the summer yet.

I had one out of a wooden dowel that was about 10', my uncle made the foot out of aluminum and I don't have a pic. So I'm zero help...lol

Fucking bee's drilled a hole in it and it snapped in half while I was leaning all 230 lbs on it. That was fun!

This is what I'm talking about with the pvc. This is a smaller version I made for my kayak. The pole I used is actually a small fiberglass cross bar used for high jump. The foot is cheap to make and very effective.

I used a 14 or 16' closet rod from stines/lowes/whatever, and a foot from academy. Sanded the end down a little to fit the foot snug, drilled a hole and ran a bolt through the foot.

Works great till your buddy falls on it out in the gulf and snaps it in two. Down to about a 6' right now. Probably gonna redo it again this evening, 6' is just about useless. Total cost was about 30 bucks, 15 or so for the foot and 15 or so for the pole.

Hoping to run across a pole vault one day to upgrade, but till then closet pole works pretty good.

Top rail for a chain link fence works with the academy foot and won't break. That's what I used.
