So, I just bought a 1750 Gator trax with a 35hp Mudbuddy HD. Im new to mud motors and mudboats in general so im looking for some help from the professionals! Ive been in the boat twice now and im trying to get the motor tuned up. I took it out yesterday with me (190lbs) and another guy (175 lbs) and my dog plus an ice chest. It topped out at about 23.5mph. Don't know RPM's yet as I don't have a tach. Its on order though! ANY advice is greatly appreciated. :D

Sounds like your speeds are right on track.
That is a heavy boat, and more like 18.5' long.
You also had 400+ lbs of shit in the boat.
Get a tach, but you're spot on.

Is the motor new or used?

Could probably get a little more out of it, cause you probably have leaking valves.

Well I put the tach on. Haven't put it back in the water yet, but here are some numbers...

Idle is at 1080
High rev 4100 average.

Does that sound right?

Put it in the water and see where its running the best. RPM wise. Motor not under load won't tell what you wanna know

Also You will learn things as you go about where to trim and how to adjust your load in boat for best performance.

Put it in the water yesterday and got around the same results.

1000 at idle
4000 WOT
Running 23.5mph with me and another person plus a cooler

Moved everything to the back of the boat and got 24.5mph.

Yean i hear ya! Next, im gonna test it with my regular hunting load ( gear, dog, ice chest, 3 guys...etc) and see what I get out of it. I want to hold out on the mods until the warranty period is over.

I THINK i will be able to stand it if I can still stay in the low 20's with a full hunting load.

Rice, Would a 3-blade prop make any difference?

I think ScaryGary has a Gatortrax that runs 38 unloaded and 35 with a load. He did lots of motor and prop work.

You should also be getting more rpm's out of water.
That is probably holding you back a little.

I adjusted a little yesterday at the house and got 4200 before it over revved. idles was still at around 11-1200.

Can someone explain to me how/where to adjust the governor? Want to make sure I'm doing it right!

Bass Pro Shops. It was actually a really good deal! Boat is brand new but been sitting at their store for a couple years.

So you need to find a Mud buddy guy local to get you motor set up and tuned correctly. If you were close to SC I could get you to the right guy. I think your in AL so you may have to go to MS of FL

Update: Alabama opener was this weekend. Ran the boat with 4 guys, a dog, hunt gear, pop-up blind, and a full 45qt. ice chest. Took me a while to find the right trim setting and get the boat on plane, but I got 19 steady and bumped 20 periodically. I'm pretty happy with that.

I did notice that the motor, after this weekend, was running much more quiet. It has 8 hours on it now. Do these things quiet down as they settle in?

I have a 1750 with hunt deck and tall sides. When I first got it, it had a smaller prop on it. It'd do like 18 WOT. Followed it up with a BPS BB. That bumped it to 25-26. Now built as a 5500 I run 30 under full hunting load with someone else in the boat. Out of season no blind and no hunting load I run 33-34.

Andy, Did that Gator glide help with speed any? Thinking about putting some on mine.
