I run a shallow very rocky river and am tired of beating the piss out of my boat. I just put my 3rd hole in it this year running at idle speed down stream. There are a lot of round small boulders (which aren't an issue) but there are a ton of sharp edge slate chips that like to put gashes, catch weld seams and punch holes...... before you guys say don't run that water, ill say the duck hunting is totally worth the headache.

my hull is .100 which I realize isn't ideal for this water, but I'm considering getting a new hull to better handle the impacts and glancing. in my research a .190" (3/16) seems to be the general consensus for weight and durability. I have even seen some manufacturers put poly on the bottom of jet boats to help. Here is one manufacturer http://www.rockproofboats.com/hullconstruction.html

would mud boats work with poly? how much weight would it add? would just a .190 hull be goo enough?

I think poly wouldn't be a bad idea with all the rocks. I'm not familiar with it but I think it would be much easier to replace poly every few years rather than building a new boat!

I know a guy in East Texas that runs poly on his boat. If I remember right he runs a river with rocks and put it on his boat for protection, he seemed to really like it.

I'm interested in this as well. Was thinking about getting a custom boat built with 3/16" bottom and poly.

 GatorGlide DAMMIT!
In some applications poly is the only way to go. Gatorback had some good reviews a while back.

don't worry frog! I'm going to be purchasing GG. getting my hull coated with 3/16" smooth polyuria and putting the GG over it like you said. I need to wait for it to be warmer than 15deg so I can apply it....

My buddies airboat mechanic runs and installs stainless sheets on the bottom of his airboats. They fish Cedar Key and Homosassa. Shallow runs w/ rocks and oyster beds etc. He swears by it not sure on thickness or price but just a thought.
