Post Custom Mud Hull vs Weldbilt
Do you guys think I could get a custom hull built for what I could buy a weldbilt for?
Looking for something like a 1748 with an open floor, front deck with storage, and maybe 2 storage boxes in the back.

Seems like I could get a custom weldbilt for around $4000.

Go custom. Even if its a little more the quality of the boat will be worth it over the weldbilt.

I guess my question should be how far would $4000 get me on a custom build?

I guess it all depends on builder, options, trailer included or not. At the very least try and get a few quotes before you decide.

I went from a weldbilt outboard mod V to a prodigy mud hull and the difference is night and day. I would never has considered putting a 300 lbs motor or the back of the weldbilt. There are guys who do it but eventually something is going to break and it could be catastrophic. I really liked my weldbilt/outboard but you get what you pay for.

Here is a under $2000 Alumacraft 7 yr. old 1648 riveted Jon with a 300# MB 45 on it. Works really well and can carry big loads at very good speeds. I would buy another one if I needed to. Runs mid thirties lite and low thirties with two person load and gear.

I think they do, or another company does.
I like the ribs too, IMO.
Cause I don't go sliding all over the place in turns. But I also use my boat for what its intended for.

How does a base gtr extreme cost compared to a custom boat?

I never looked at getting a mass manufactured cookie cutter boat, but I looked into lots of custom options earlier this year.

You should be able to find a new custom hull for around the 5,000 dollar mark. This isn't going to include a trailer, rigging, or paint. If you rig and paint the boat yourself, you can probably do it under 500. I rigged and painted mine for near the 1,000 dollar mark.

You can pick up a new galvanized trailer for 1000-1500, or an aluminum for 2,000-2,500. Or go used for under 500.

Just tossing you some numbers that may help you make a decision.
