I've got an old pirogue that is starting to show age on the bottom due to sitting in the sun. I'd like to put something on the bottom and sides to protect it and give it a little more life and beef it up. What would you all reccomend? I was thinking steel flex. It's fiberglass by the way |

Did you mean c-flex? Fiberglass rods sandwiched between fiberglass mat? |

If it was me, I would sand it down and add a layer of Kevlar and then double tape the seams with Kevlar and be done with it. I would remove any gel coat if it has it and I would use a good 2 part epoxy like West Systems or US Composites. I been doing this for 20+yrs and anything other than glass or Kevlar on a fiberglass boat is just a band-aid. Buy a tarp and cover that boat up afterwards or paint it completely, UV light, whether from the sun or indoor lighting is hell on exposed fiberglass, graphite and Kevlar. |
