Was out for a hunt today and on the ride back and my mud buddy 5500 sport blew up. Oil is literally everywhere! What could it be? No visual signs of where it came from that’s why I’m asking

Pics? This seems like a dumb question but I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt.

Already left the shop where it’s stored. We took the shroud of and it looks like it’s coming from behind the fly wheel after we started it. Oil comes out fast like scary fast. Engine was drained dry acorrdingnto dip stick. Hopefully it’s just a seal but I’m fearinng more

Once you get it up and running put a stock exhaust or something with some baffles on it. The DNR and Feds are cracking down on the 90dB limit. Seems some warden has got a boner for them and brought the issue up during a Conservation Congress meeting this past summer.

Well she won’t be running for a long time 60 hours on it and the block cracked real bad. I’m not sure what my options are now tbh. Anyone els have this happen? It only a 5500 sport so i don’t think there are as many internal mods so I’m kinda surprised it’s as bad as it is his early. Could be wrong but what do I know.

That shouldn’t happen, especially at 60 hours. How old is it? Still under warranty?

I replaced my block when I tossed a rod through the side. Actually used a vertical block, just had to plug one hole and drill another. Reused most of the parts from the original except the offending starter, a rod, and a piston.

Is it the Sport V or hd sport? Either way 60 hours is nothing. But, the sport v has had some serious issues.

I have 4 times that much time on my home built 5500 and its been great...........so far. I thought a couple times it should have blown up but she's a strong sum bitch I guess.

You can buy just a block or a short block from Briggs or any dealer of Briggs motors. It doesn't have to be a mud motor dealer. See if Strobie22 on here has a spare block, he's in Wi. Not sure if he has any spare parts sitting around anymore or not?

Just checkin here. When you say 5500, I would think yours is a bps pistons and rod motor? Can we get some clarity on your engine? The options for repair will vary depending on what you have now.
