I Have the 23hp model gtr my question is could i buy a 35 hp motor and just replace the motors as long as the shaft and keyway are the same size i dont see an issue why i couldnt

Yes you can, You remove the spacer blocks the 23 sits on. you need a 4" long 1-1/8" pto |
