Mudbuddy 5000 efi question
Seriously considering buying the new 5000EFI for my 1851 Prodigy. Talking with the salesman, he recommended having the motor geared down with a big blade prop for better holeshot and if I wanted something with a little more speed to run rivers and play in the summer, get a 3 blade or hammer for speed. Does this make sense or can someone reason why this would be better than leaving it “standard”? Any and all info/opinions appreciated.

Re: Mudbuddy 5000 efi question
Makes no sense to me, but I see well past 35 with a worked big blade and have a great holeshot. I've seen the claims of some that 3blades are faster, or this and that. With a 5000efi, a stock big blade isn't enough prop, and a hammer isn't gonna have the same speed, and a 3 blade is just gonna be a 3 blade (which is probably fine, as I've only run 3 different worked 3 blades and been happy with none for different reasons. My opinion on them is limited, but not high). All will require some work to be right, and I suggest basing prop work off of gearing, not the other way around. Everyone wants something different out of their setup. I wanted holeshot, shallow water load carrying. I got that AND speed, somehow. Gearing to one of those props is cheaper than playing the prop game, but quite limiting in my opinion.

Re: Mudbuddy 5000 efi question
Russ, thanks for the response. What you wanted is exactly what I’m looking for as well. Typically I hunt a heavy load in a heavy boat in shallow water. The 37 has a hard time getting planed out so I’m anxious to see what this 5000 will do. I don’t know much of anything about props so your thoughts are appreciated. I think I’m going to just tell them to keep the motor geared normal.
